If this game is released under a free license (e.g. GPL), then please say so on the image description page. If it isn't, it will have to be deleted. pfctdayelise (translate?) 00:12, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- Game? Excuse me? Are you not familiar with emulation? The screenshot was of a GPL-program emulating a game from the 1980s. Copyright issues have never applied to screenshots of other emulators emulating just-as-copryighted games. Please don't try and apply them to mine. Thank you. =) - Siloh
- Well, you tagged this image PD-self. That implies that you own the copyright and you decided to release all rights to it. Clearly not true. If you want to avoid future uploads being similarly deleted I suggest you comply with the Commons licensing requirements. In this case I believe {{free screenshot|license=GPL}} would have done the trick, with a link to the program's website indicating its license as GPL. As it happens, no, I'm not familiar with emulation. I doubt that changes what the problem here was, though. Regards, pfctdayelise (translate?) 03:51, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
- Still, sometimes common sense has to apply, especially to moderators. Too bad I don't have that file anymore, or I would reupload it and do as you said. But my life is too busy to spend the time to make another screenshot - someone else will have to do it. I was just trying to help the project out, and this is what I got for it, which always seems to be the case here at Wikipedia. Too many rules, and not enough common ground with which to support them. - Siloh
- Siloh, please. Already there is a backlog of hundreds of images which incorrect, fake or missing source or licensing information. Common sense - are we mindreaders or should we spend hours investigating images to find their source, when their uploaders couldn't even show us that courtesy to tell us? How lenient should we be, while these problematic images pile up and some users never come back? If you were unsure, you could have asked, and in a second someone would have told you what I have above. Or if you read Commons:Copyright tags you would see it as well. The rules we have here cut to the core of the desire to write a free encyclopedia. If you can think of some other method of weeding out the many, many copyright violations that are wilfully or ignorantly uploaded every single day, while the Commons struggles with not enough volunteers, please go ahead. pfctdayelise (translate?) 21:32, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Siloh. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Siloh~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
