Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). Image problems
[edit]It would really be helpful if you provided a unique url source for your uploads. We take copyright status and sourcing very seriously. You gave a Flickr album link as the source for your recent images but we require a unique url for each and every image so they can be reviewed by the Flickrreview robot. Providing just a Flickr user's photostream or album link means someone has to search through all their images to find the ones you uploaded and make a correction. That can be rather hard and time consuming because some Flickr users, like the one whose images you uploaded yesterday, have large albums. Unfortunately, you as the uploader, are responsible for providing the right details and as you were on each image page so it would not have been hard to do that. Would you please go back and update the images, otherwise they may be deleted? In future I recommend you use the Flickr2Commons upload tool because that transfers in all the appropriate details from Flickr. It is not perfect as Flickr users can falsely license images as free even when they are obviously not but in general it works well. You will find it at: https://tools.wmflabs.org/flickr2commons. Thanks and good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 11:15, 24 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Ww2censor: sorry about that. I've updated the source line for the 12 images with the unique URL for each image. I see in this category what to do if the image can't be found, but is there a way to re-run those images? And, thank you, I didn't know about OAuth Uploader... I just saw a way to enter one URL for multiple images and didn't realize they were checked by the bot. Rhinopias (talk) 15:14, 24 August 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for attending to that. Because the tags given by the bot are all slightly different they have to be revised individually. I've replaced the existing error tag with this template {{Flickrreview}} to get the bot to review them again. Well, I suppose you could have done it at the same time as updating the urls but you did not know. It's done now so they should be ok. I had seen them in Category:Unsourced Flickr images reviewed by FlickreviewR but they don't appear there now as they have been given a good review by the bot. Yeah there are many features tucked away that one discovers either by accident or by being told there is a better way. Good luck and thanks for some nice images. Wiki Science Competition 2019
[edit]Dear uploader of European Science Photo Competition 2015 and Wiki Science Competition 2017, we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2019 has started in the whole world. It is now completed in Russia (active in May), Ukraine and France (active during November), but it's still open in all the other countries.
If you want to take part where WSC2019 is still open, please consult this page. Only some national categories are associated to competitions with local prizes.
If you are an expert user, please consider that images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface.
Please keep in mind that there is a new category this year, i.e. "nature and wildlife".
If you already took part in a country that has completed its upload phase, please consider improving the description in English of your files (click on the edit button), since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them. World finalists will be finalized after March 2020.
Sorry for bothering you and have a nice wiki.
