Thanks for uploading this, and other files. However, there is already an existing structure of categories for benchmarks by county, type and (if appropriate) location. Take a look at Category:Benchmarks in Liverpool to which I have already extensively contributed. The naming convention which has been developed is "Benchmark at xxx", to enable searching by location. Further, the actual cut marks themselves are of little use without some context and a link to benchmarks.org would be helpful. See also {{Benchmark UK}}. It's a little extra work to get it right, but Category:Benchmarks in the United Kingdom is really too broad a category to be useful within an already rich and well-developed structure. It just makes work for others, er, mostly me, when I have the time. Cheers. Rodhullandemu (talk) 00:29, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
Many thanks for your comments. I will try and adopt this standard with new photographs I upload. I will try and work backwards updating older images. One question, how do I use the Benchmark UK tag when I upload the initial image? At the moment I am needing to edit the Summary information after Publishing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ray.hutchings (talk • contribs) 09:14, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks Ray.hutchings
- Hi Ray. The {{Benchmark UK}} template is only useful for benchmarks already on benchmarks.org, and what I do is add it without a benchmarkid in the "Other information" field of the Upload Wizard. That way, it initially appears but without an identifier. I also have a benchmarks.org account so I can add a new benchmark to that with a visit log containing a link back to the image here on Commons, then backfill the newly-created benchmarkid into the template. If you don't want to do that, it's not compulsory, just helpful. Cheers. Rodhullandemu (talk) 10:28, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
Could we have a "Benchmarks in Nottinghamshire", please? I'm not sure if I can add one or how I would do it if I can. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ray.hutchings (talk • contribs) 15:13, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
