User talk:Ragtimedorianhenry2010
Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:27, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:1915_Cleopatra_Rag.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

Stop
[edit]As you've already been told, you need to stop uploading files with false authorship and copyright claims. Please fix the problems with your existing uploads before you attempt to upload anything else. —LX (talk, contribs) 22:24, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
- Excuse LX - he does not know better. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 14:01, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- LX is right, everything uploaded by the user is under false own work claim & w/o source links. It's not hard for uploader to add source link, nobody is obliged to do this work for uploader. Trycatch (talk) 14:13, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- The uploads are free, LX is creating extra work for others, and chasing away contributors of valuable content. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 14:16, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, mostly (not all, far from all) these images are free, but Commons is not one-click hosting for old pictures. Contributions w/o proper descriptions are net negative, it takes too much time to fix them (fill in description, check copyright status) for occasional Commons user. Trycatch (talk) 14:40, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- These beautiful covers were properly described and dated. Uploader wrote that these were "Libre" (free), for which Commons demands a tag, PD-1923. But instead of making such a little edit, it seems to be more fun to tag them for deletion with a stupid "no-permission" tag, and to harass the contributer on his talk page. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 14:46, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- I can't agree that these covers "were properly described", e.g. compare the description of File:Fredstone 1898.jpg and the original description: [1]. The difference is apparent. It wasn't even stated that this picture came from the E. Azalia Hackley Collection, and then it was digitally altered. Trycatch (talk) 16:07, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- The only important point was the date, which was in the original upload. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 17:53, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- The second important point is the source, which was omitted. Trycatch (talk) 18:00, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- Any url was irrelevant for copyright status. It does not matter. It is no reason for tagging for deletion, or for leaving harassing templates on a user page. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 18:12, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

- Most of this isnt even own scan but copied from e.g. http://library.duke.edu/digitalcollections/hasm/ via e.g. http://www.ragtimepiano.ca/rags/joplin.htm or other websites according to the various file sizes. The claim of own work, PD-self or sometimes even 'own collection' is odd. Thus might be fixable for the sheet music, but for the images... a lot of work is waiting, or tagging with . --Martin H. (talk) 21:58, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Can you please stop uploading anything as your "own work" with author=Ragtimedorianhenry2010 and a license saying: I, the copyright holder of this work, release this work into the public domain.? You are neither the author nor the copyright holder, so do something to get rid of this false informations. --Martin H. (talk) 15:42, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
