User talk:Poil~commonswiki
welcome, this is your user discussion page :P Phe 00:29, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Hello - thank you for providing images to the wikimedia commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the commons should be useful to all users of wikimedia projects - this is possible only if the images can be found by other people. To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should either place the images on topic pages (galleries), or put the images directly into a category, or do both. Which of those possibilities is preferred is however a matter of debate, see here.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There is a large number of completely unsorted images on the commons right now, see Commons:Really unused. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do! Thank you. -- Duesentrieb 01:29, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Hi, how can I create a subcategory in Computers ? I think either "microprocessor" should be created, or "Computer chips" or "chips" ? The more I think about it, the more I think "Chip" should be okay, since it includes the microprocessors, microcontrolers, memory chips, etc. etc. Thanks. Poil 01:49, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Category:Microprocessors exists already. I added categories to your images. --EugeneZelenko 03:17, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

100'000. image
[edit]Congratulations. You are the uploader of the 100.000 image (see the not yet released Commons:Press releases/100K and Commons:Village pump). I changed the image description to the information template for having a unique look of the image descipitions. One point: Could you upload as well the source code of the graphic (and then entering its name in the "other_versions") as we would also like to have the source for easier modifications of graphics (see e.g. Image:WKAHersteller.jpg). This would be very kind of you and appreciated very much. Have fun. Arnomane 01:42, 21 May 2005 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks ;-) I plan to modify most of the images I've uploaded to include a version either English, or sometimes with just the arrows, but without the text so anyone can put the text in its own language.
- Now, the file is in PPT format (don't hate me). No idea what the export possibilities of PPT are, or if there is any converter so the source file can be hacked by free software... Any hint ? 4:38 here, I'll talk to you tommorow ok ? I'm on IRC btw, nick "Poil". Poil 02:39, 21 May 2005 (UTC)
Image deletion warning | Image:Alu.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

Image permission request - academic teaching video
[edit]Hi - I would like to include your image of a 1/2" computer tape and the start-of-data sticker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tapesticker.jpg) in an educational video to accompany a textbook. The video will however not be freely available and would only be sent to teachers using the textbook. I would be grateful if you could contact me to let me know whether you can grant permission for us to use the image in this way.
Best wishes,
Pauline Hubner (email p.hubner@thameshudson.co.uk) on behalf of Thames and Hudson Ltd

If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Poil. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Poil~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
