Anefo duplicates

[edit]

Hi, thanks for uploading the tank images. However the ones from Anefo will (or should) be uploaded here already. We have a large quantity of Anefo content (10s of thousands), although there's still work needed on categorising it. Andy Dingley (talk) 12:01, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I noticed this and stopped any further uploads. Podlesok86 (talk) 01:55, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Beaufighter Mark VI image problem

[edit]

Image "Een Bristol Beaufighter Mk. VI, uitgerust met een torpedo, in de start (2157-066-001)" you uploaded matches one in IWM Collection which describes it as a Beaufighter Mark X (serial LZ114) https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205127134

I suspect its more likely the Dutch MoD is wrong than the IWM. GraemeLeggett (talk) 06:54, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, will revise with the IWM description in parenthesis below. Podlesok86 (talk) 15:36, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Categorization

[edit]

Hi, please note that the category systems at both Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons are hierarchical, rather than via simple keywords, for example see guidance at Categories. Also please note that while you are welcome to create new categories, each must have at least one parent category, so that it can be found by browsing the hierarchy structure, eg using tools such as Cat-a-lot and Hotcat. I have made relevant amendments to various Fokker files and categories, including some that you have kindly uploaded or contributed to. Thank you for your attention.PeterWD (talk) 11:47, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

File:Manewry na poligonie wojskowym w Skierniewicach (51-43-25).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

OVERCAT

[edit]

Hi, thanks for the German railway photos from ETH.

For categorization, it's not necessary to add all the cats. If something is in Category:Electric locomotives of Germany then it's already implictly a member of Category:Electric locomotives too. Same as for a German loco class, if that whole class are electrics. These are categories (which have implied supercat relations), not tags (which don't).

This causes a lot of confusion on MediaWiki projects. The cats should be removed if they're completely implied by the subcat. So all German locos are locos. But it's not always so clear: the definition of cat members isn't always clear cut. Also some categories act as navigation lists, and it's unhelpful to have things missing from them, so we might leave them in such a cat. Members of Diesel-hydraulic locos might still be listed under Diesel locos, otherwise someone looking for them in that big and obvious list wouldn't find them unless they already knew what transmission type to look under! That sort of thing makes navigation very hard. Andy Dingley (talk) 10:25, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, so what is the hierarchy of categorization that I should be used? In the example of the locomotives, if I find a category for the specific vehicle class, I can omit the electric and German loco categories? Podlesok86 (talk) 16:46, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Generally the goal is to put them in the single most-specific category that describes them, for each "dimension". So this could be Category:DB Class 120 and also Category:Trains at Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof, for the "what" and "where" dimensions. The loco category then implies that they're electric. Andy Dingley (talk) 22:23, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, noted. Podlesok86 (talk) 23:22, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
