Your reaction at Tamasflex's talk page
[edit]Dear Chrischi,
On User talk:Tamasflex#Scalable Vector Graphigs you complimented Tamasflex for his nice drawings, but you ask him to produce SVG drawings rather than PNG. You are not the first one asking him so. Others did before (see fr:Discussion utilisateur:Tamasflex#Pages utiles here (just below the little image), but he seems to ignore this.
This user Tamasflex is being severely criticised for the way he operates in Wikipedia. His drawings are very ineffective for an encyclopedia and are in a kind of an old-fashioned 19th-century style. He puts his images just anywhere where thinks the topic has something to do with his images, not bothering to translate his captions, titles, etc. He also doesn't mind to put image links(!) into the caption texts(!) of exisiting images.
This Tamasflex should, in my opinion, not be stimulated to work on Wikipedia. I just filed a complaint at the Hungarian Wikipedia (hoping this is the right page to do so -- I cannot read a word of Hungarian; a Dutch user who knows Hungarian was so helpful as to find out this page for me). I would strongly suggest that you read my complaint there (I just uploaded it; I don't know if they may move it to somewhere else).
Schöne Grüße aus den Niederlanden! HHahn (talk) 13:06, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hi HHahn,
- his behaviour is definitely very ignorant and impolite. But if the drawings were SVG, some of his work would be usefull material. Errors could be corrected and it could be modified to become suitable for the text. I don't accept him to replace my vector-drawings by his similar looking png-drawings. That makes me annoyed. Maybe you are right, I should not encourage him. I wonder, if he ever read his comments. He did not answer at all. Did you try the Email-function?
- best regards to the netherlands from germany!
- --Chrischi (talk) 13:39, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hallo Chrischi!
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:17, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
