Photo of Han gear mold

Hi. As you requested, I have edited the article on Han dinasty to indicate that the photo of the gear mold was taken at Shanghai Museum. I am sorry for having taken so long to answer, fortunately the article was approved! I rarely check my Commons discussion. I guess I should redirect users to my page in the Wikipedia in Spanish, which I check daily. My apologies again. --Hispalois (talk) 16:33, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Re: Hey Jappalang

Yeah, since the rubbing lacks any new creativity, it is pretty fine to use it as is. Jappalang (talk) 00:33, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi, the source is wrong (and I believe I know how they could make such a mistake). This image is indeed that of the Han Emperor, Zhao Di (Liu Fuling), according to its caption (top right hand corner). I have uploaded a more detailed image (and stated its source). The source also shows why the original source (ibiblio) might have made the mistake. The paintings are all done on a single scroll; Guangwu Di's image is on the left of Zhao Di (a sample of the scroll here). As you can see from the new source for Zhao Di, it is possible for someone (maybe they are tired or confused) to take Guangwu Di's caption for Zhao Di. Regardless, the proper layout is the caption for an image is on its top right, and this image's caption corresponds to Zhao Di's titular. Jappalang (talk) 06:39, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, the projects operate on the principles of verifibility, so I should bring better sources to present my point. Although I would advise a less vigorous stance of support behind this source that claims the image to be otherwise than what the caption for the image says. Personally after reading through early studies of Chinese culture of history, and referring back to the original texts, I found Western interpretations (translations)... spotty. Nonetheless, I present studies that are more academic. Page 113 (191 in journal) Guyuan Hongshen's article in the 16th issue of the Arts Research Journal (hosted on National Taiwan University Press' site: http://www.press.ntu.edu.tw/ejournal/Files/%AC%FC%B3N%A5v%AC%E3%A8s/200403/3.pdf) states that the scroll starts with Zhao Di (as evident on the forum site I have shown), this is also pointed out on p. 2 and p. 25 of Chen Baozhen's article in the same issue (http://www.press.ntu.edu.tw/ejournal/Files/%AC%FC%B3N%A5v%AC%E3%A8s/200403/1.pdf). On p. 25, Baozhen states that the image of Zhao Di is dressed in plain clothes and not in regal robes like the rest of the emperors on the scroll. That clearly shows who File:HanZhaoDiLiuFuling.jpg is supposed to represent. However, Baozhen doubts the authencity of the representation, and believes the caption was overwritten by another painter (the brush strokes are different from the rest of the captions). Baozhen further points out that Zhao Di died at an early age, but the representation here is of a middle-age monarch. Baozhen believes the authenticity of the other images (thus Guangwu Di is the next image) and points that File:HanZhaoDiLiuFuling.jpg might be Wang Mang (王莽), the usurper. His interpretation is that later historians, mistaking the intent of the original author, overwrite the caption to be Zhao Di to create a "proper" historical succession.
From these, we can conclude that Chinese take the scrolls as is: Zhao Di leads the imagery, followed by Guangwu Di and the rest. (from the research above, government site reports, news site, official education sites for kids and books). Academic studies, however, find the representation of Zhao Di could be of doubt but more likely to be Wang Mang than anybody else. There is no evidence that show Guangwu Di's representation to be false. No one was "merely following what the online sources" but they were following what the captions on the scrolls themselves (primary sourcing) were saying. Does Paludan point out her analysis of why it believes the Zhao Di to be Guangwu Di, and Guangwu Di to be Wen Di, or is she merely following mistaken identifications by other sources? Jappalang (talk) 21:54, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
That becomes an issue then, there is no way to truly know whose view or what research she is basing her opinion on. What is true is that the common perception of the images are those of Zhao Di and Guangwu Di respectively (and even Wikipedia policy advise to abide by the common verified name ); her and Baozeng's opinions are still up for debate in the academic circles. Back in Wikipedia, we would have to state the common and the academic views, so how does these([1][2]) look? Jappalang (talk) 02:37, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

You may have noticed a number of deletion requests coming from me. That is because those photos were uploaded many years ago when my pictures were hosted on Picasaweb, and not Flickr as they are now. Also I used several websites which are no longer in existence, so the pictures you uploaded have obsolete information. Moreover, several other people have uploaded the same pictures, except with the correct website and source information. So I'm trying to clean up my contributions to Wikimedia Commons and deleting duplicate photos with obsolete information is one of the things I am doing. Nothing personal, and I appreciate your use of my pictures, but I want people to have current information. Thanks.Gary Lee Todd (talk) 08:20, 6 June 2021 (UTC) I tried to sign this the way I was told do, but nothing happened, so I will just add my name, Gary Lee Todd
