[edit]Hello, in general, I would agree with you. Butː As it's a more or less "virgin" page and no other page links to this page. I asked for deletion in oder to keep the number of "low" and as with a redirect there is no benefit at all. Just my 2 cents.... best regards, AnBuKu (talk) 22:24, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Redirects should be deleted
[edit]Hi Nyttend, sorry for the serial mistake in the filenames. But the old names are grammatically false and deceptive, the redirects should be deleted. Nobody needs such redirects. Thanks and Greetings from Germany --Wilhelm Zimmerling PAR (talk) 23:01, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
File renaming
[edit]Hey. I can set redirects for deletion without the “Rename File” rights. Therefore, there is no reason to revoke rights. I will no longer insert delete redirects, please return the "Rename File" permissions. Thank. --Takhirgeran Umar (talk) 00:27, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
Hi Nyttend! The drawing you can see on the right side is not own work. The uploader took a photo about an illustration in a museum somewhere. Perhaps outdoor, perhaps indoor we don't know (rather indoor). That's why I requested to delete after I had transferred it to Commons by FileImporter. --Regasterios (talk) 06:27, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Quality image nomination
[edit]Hey!, just FYI, I've nominated File:St. Joseph's Old Cathedral from the Oklahoma City National Memorial.jpg for quality image status, and so far the image has received one support vote. I think you should consider nominating some of your other images for similar status, if you're interested. Super easy! -Another Believer (talk) 23:54, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
Flannery Island
[edit]Hello. Have you fotos of full Flannery Island? Maybe you have a photo of parts of the island from which one can make a panoramic photo of it? Maybe you have a photo of the mouth of the Great Miami River? It would be good to upload them into Wikimedia Commons. Blast furnace chip worker (talk) 13:57, 24 August 2019 (UTC)
Category:Portsmouth, Virginia Path of History
[edit]Where does it say you can't place a category in a parent and child category?, would that be The category structure is (ideally) a multi-hierarchy with a single root category? Where does it say you will be blocked if you do? As it happens the Portsmouth, Virginia Path of History is a pathway which is a present day thing and not a historical artefact. When it's permanently closed it will be history. Its a part of modern Portsmouth, a network of paths with some signboards for the history Portsmouth. The artefacts (statuary of a kind) on display are not documented or labeled and come off ships that merely visited the port. Last time I looked the Smithsonian is not filed under History of Washington D.C. Technically Portsmouth, Virginia Path of History should be in Portsmouth, Virginia and not History of Portsmouth, Virginia. I only left it in as a courtesy to whoever put it in, while disagreeing with it. Broichmore (talk) 11:08, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
Important message for file movers
[edit]A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
Please, delete file redirect
[edit]Regarding: Special:Diff/392230426: Please, delete the redirect File:Lotus cornulatus on Corsica.jpg. I made a spelling mistake on renaming, so this is really very recent, other than the original file. The wrong wording “recently uploaded” comes from a script I am using, I just did forget to change the phrasing. If you insist on this, I could request deletion once again. — Speravir – 02:45, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

Reverting my action You stated "(That's not a bad name: it's the name it's had for nine years)". When you had a look at Category:Naval ships of France by name first, you had found out that it is not a bad name indeed, but a lot of other ship categories are named the way I did for the new category. I categorised as autopatrolled filemover thousands of ships, many of the naval ships that way already. Unfortunately categorisation of naval ships is not standardised, as it is in the Dutch Wikipedia. Common practice is however, that contrary to the English wikipedia, ships in Commons are categorised by year of completion, not by year of launching, as in the Dutch, French, German and so on Wikipedias. And naval ships are categorised there and in Commons by year of first commissioning. This ship was launched in 1982, but commissioned in 1983, as you can find in the French Wikipedia. My suggestion is to revert the move. --Stunteltje (talk) 07:41, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
- I agree with User:Stunteltje here: Commons' pattern of category names for ships with known launch years is pretty consistent. Nothing wrong with a soft redirect from a longstanding name, but we should change the actual category name to fit the pattern. - Jmabel ! talk 16:15, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- The situation was a copy/paste move followed by tagging the established name with {{Bad name}}. I don't care one bit where the category is located, but that tag is never appropriate when a category's been at a certain location for nine years, and I'm not going to spend time moving a category for someone who doesn't want to follow process. Image without license
[edit]
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.
Thank you. This message was added automatically by MifterBot (Talk • Contribs • Owner), if you need some help about it, please read the text above again and follow the links in it, if you still need help ask at the ->Commons:Help desk in any language you like to use. --MifterBot (Talk • Contribs • Owner) 03:02, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Please participate in the Universal Code of Conduct consultation on Wikimedia Commons!
[edit]Dear Nyttend
Thank you for your hard work to create the sum of all knowledge that is freely sharable to every single human being across the world. As our diverse community grows, we need a guideline that will help all of our work collectively and constructively where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and part of a team. That is why the Wikimedia movement is working on establishing a global guideline called the Universal Code of Conduct, often referred to as UCoC.
After the months-long policy consultation, we have prepared a policy (available in many languages) that has been ratified by the Board of Trustees. We’re currently in the second phase of the process. During this round of consultation, we want to discuss the implementation of this policy. As a member of the functionary team of Wikimedia Commons, your opinion on enforcement is of great value. We want to hear from you on how this policy can be enforced on the Wikimedia Commons community and what might be needed to do so. There are a few enforcement questions so you can easily outline your answers based on them. Please do not hesitate to bring any more questions/challenges you think are not yet discussed.
The discussion is taking place on Commons:Universal Code of Conduct consultation. You can also share your thoughts by replying to this message (Please ping me so I get notified), posting your message on my talk page. I am aware that some thoughts cannot be expressed publicly, so you can always share your opinion by emailing me as well.
As a valued member of the Commons community, please share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences that relate to UCoC. Let us know what needs to be improved so we can build a more friendly and cooperative space to increase editor engagement and retention of new users.
Wikimedia projects are governed by you. So, it is you who needs to step up to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant working environment.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you! Wikitanvir (WMF) (talk) 10:18, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
Please take a short survey regarding UCoC
[edit]Hello Nyttend,
I would like to inform you that we now have a survey in place to take part in the UCoC consultation. It is not a long one and should take less than 10 minutes to complete. You can take the survey even if you have already participated in the on-wiki consultation. It has a different set of questions and allows you to participate anonymously and privately.
As a member of the Commons functionaries, your opinion is especially essential. Please click here to participate in the survey.
You are still welcome to participate in the on-wiki discussions. If you prefer you can have your say by sending me an email. You can also drop me an email if you want to have a one-to-one chat.
Thank you for your participation! Wikitanvir (WMF) 13:54, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for Your Images.
[edit]Your are prolific in adding images from across Ohio and Indiana and possibly a lot more places. I'm always impressed when I find one of your images. They are well composed and often excellent quality. I on the other hand take more technical (although sometimes poor quality) of the smae places. Thanks for you work and the detail you put into the categories assigned to each image. I've created many categories for specific places and building, for which you're the original contributor, thus you're category references are always added to the new categories I established. Your work make my contributions to commons easier. Chris Light (talk) 15:45, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
How we will see unregistered users
[edit]Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Historical info signs vs historical markers
[edit]Hello - I came across a category that you deleted as a duplicate/redundant category: Deleted Category:Historical information signs in Michigan as a duplicate of Category:Historical markers in Michigan. Initially, I thought of historical information signs as distinct from historical markers in that historical information signs are like info boards (example), whereas historical markers tend to be engraved in metal, like on a plaque (example). I had also already filed other images under the parent Category:Historical information signs in the United States to their respective "by state" categories, so I resurrected the Michigan-specific category in order to finish categorizing the signs in Michigan. But now I'm not so sure. What are your thoughts on this? Are historical info signs and historical markers redundant categories? Should they be merged? I'm still not sure whether it sits right with me, but I'd really value your opinion. Thank you. Yo scottie oh (talk) 00:46, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
