File:Paramount Pictures logo (2012-Present intro, On-Screen variant).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Derivative images
[edit]Hi Noah! It seems a lot of the neat pictures that you're making can't be hosted on Commons because they're what we call "derivative works." If you take a look and read that page, it will help you understand why we can't host them. For instance, we can't host images of copyrighted characters such as Wolverine and Batman becuase their corporate owners (Disney and Warner Brothers, respectively) won't allow us to license them freely for reuse.
I hope this helps you. I wouldn't want to see you get blocked for continuing to upload this sort of image. Bastique ☎ let's talk! 17:42, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- But... I just thought I wanted to help you guys; that's all. NoahBWill2002 (talk) 17:56, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- I totally love comics and comic characters. Especially Marvel. I wish I could upload drawings all my favorite characters! There is so much we could do to decorate our articles. However, all of our content has to be available for other sites to use without restriction, and we can't do that with properties (like Wolverine) we don't own the rights to. Disney would make us take it down right away. They might even be able to sue us. In a few years from now, Captain America and Namor are going to be in the public domain (at least the 1940s versions of them). Then we can host those pictures. - And when, in a few years, exactly? NoahBWill2002 (talk) 18:29, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- Looking at the dates, the time is relative. "A few years" is an understatement (although I'm much older so it's not so much to me). I've been on Wikipedia for 20 years, so 11 years is not that much (Captain America), but here are the dates that certain super-heroes become public domain and open to all sorts of interpretation:
- 2026: The Shadow
- 2030: Flash Gordon, Mandrake the Magician
- 2032: Phantom
- 2034: Superman, Captain Marvel (Shazam)
- 2035: Batman, Namor, Human Torch (Jim Hammond)
- 2036: Captain America
