Maps
[edit]Hi, good work on the maps -- it would be nice if you can mention some sources in the description, so that others can verify the accuracy of these maps. Most of your maps seem to be quite close to published sources, but some of them depict borders that are not supported (or contradicted) by other sources. Utcursch (talk) 15:54, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Utcursch, Thanks for appraisal, Source for the maps are usally provided with the image caption but after your comment I would list it down on the source section. Talking about the contradiction it usally happens as diffferent authors pose different veiws regarding the geographical extent of the Empires or Kingdoms in this case we actually can't do nothing For instance, Map 3.1 (p.65) in India before Europe by Catherine B. Asher and Cynthia Talbot (2nd. ed., 2023: Cambridge University Press) shows Vijaynagar Empire under Sangama Dynasty controlling whole of south(exept Kerala) and northern part of Sri Lanka meanwhile another map of Vijaynagar under Sangama made by Joseph E. Schwartberg 1 shows whole of Srilanka with sway of Vijaynagar extending far beyond Goa. We editors in this case reach to a consensus, Same you can do if you want any change in the maps. - Hello @Nikel3012, I have some issues with your map regarding the Sikh Empire, First of all the map nowhere i think resembles a "greatest extent"? because it doesn't have ladakh or peshawar, which it should, if it is there then it should at least be labelled because of its relevance. Which it is not, I will casually wait for your response.122.175.93.57 06:34, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
Imperial Pandya Map
[edit]In map 1 which you created shows the Pandyas going as far North as Vengi (which iirc was under the control of the Kakatiyas at the time). The map is used in the Pandya dynasty article, but the article itself does not corroborate it.
Jatavarman I (c. 1251) successfully expanded the kingdom into the Telugu country (as far north as Nellore), south Kerala, and conquered northern Sri Lanka.
and
"Maravarman Kulasekara I, now virtually unchallenged, ruled over the Chola country and southern Tamil speaking portions of Hoysala kingdom.
No mention of Vengi.
You have cited 2 sources for the map, one of which being Encyclopedia Britannica, but the article there states
The “Five Pandyas” flourished from the 12th to the 14th century and eventually assumed control of all the plains of the extreme south as far north as Nellore (1257).
Now, I don't really have any access to the other source you mentioned, maybe that talks about their conquest of Vengi, if it does, then my apologies for wasting your time. If it doesn't however, I suggest changing your map to something like map 2. AlvaKedak (talk) 11:56, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
