Hello, NightElfik!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

I used a text-editor to centralize the style information, instead of having the same information being repeated separately on each line segment. I don't actually use Inkscape to edit SVG files (only to test and convert SVG files)... AnonMoos (talk) 00:07, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

l-system

[edit]

Hi. What program do you use to create images ? I would like to add category : images with src code. --Adam majewski (talk) 20:14, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi, I've used my own L-system generator and I saved the source code just "for me" (and in case somebody would understand it). However now I am using page http://malsys.cz/ where all the images can be reproduced. Should I actually go over my L-system images and change the code to match syntax of Malsys? --NightElfik (talk) 20:50, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Can you describe your own L-system generator ? ( in what language, how long is src code ). Some people publish the code of their programs
  2. You can add new code in Malsys syntax. Then it is possible to create new category : Images with Malsys code . --Adam majewski (talk) 05:16, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • That is a good idea! The original code for generating is quite complicated (thousands of lines of code) and it is not ready for publishing. But I could add Malsys code (or even delete the previous one since it is only "for me") which will make it reproducible. I am not sure how to add new category like "Images with Malsys code" but I will ask you for help I will get to any troubles. --NightElfik (talk) 15:25, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
