Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Hi Niamfrifruli,

this image of yours contains Facebook code in its EXIF data, suggesting that it has been copied from Facebook. As material on Facebook is not free per se, this is a problem.

If you really have shot this portrait by yourself, please send a confirmation to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org . If the photo has been shot by somebody else, you first need to obtain his/her permission to release it under a free license. --Túrelio (talk) 12:08, 21 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to nominate for Featured Picture status (and how not)

Hello Niamfrifruli,

if you want to nominate a photo to become a Featured Picture (FP) on Wikimedia Commons, please nominate it on the official nomination page; that’s how it should be done. Please do not edit the chronological lists of FPs; these lists are only for archival purposes. You have edited them in [1], [2] and [3], but this is an unwanted manipulation of the chronological lists of FPs which could even be considered as vandalism; therefore I had to revert your edits. So please don’t do that again, but use the official nomination page.

Wiki Loves Folklore 2024 has started, Join us!

Hello Niamfrifruli,

Greetings from the Wiki Loves Folklore International Team! Wiki Loves Folklore is an international photography contest hosted on Wikimedia Commons to document folklore and intangible cultural heritage from around the world, such as folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, folk activities, folk games, folk cuisine, folk wear, folktales, folk games, folk religion, mythology, and many more.

The campaign invites participants to document photographs, videos, and audios linked to folk culture and fit within the contest's theme. Through this campaign, you may become a part of a community dedicated to preserving our intangible culture, which has been brought and passed down for thousands of years.

How can I Contribute?

The dates for the submission in the photography contest on Wikimedia Commons are from 1 February 2024 through 31 March 2024. Probably you are wondering how you can take part. It’s simple: grab a camera, record an image, video or audio under the folklore theme and start uploading or Click on Upload Now Icon which is available on right side of Wiki Loves Folklore 2024. To learn more about the rules, check out our Project page on Wikimedia Commons.
