Hi. Could you add copyright tags to the images you uploaded? For now I have tagged your image as "Unknown". If there are no tags, the image may have to be deleted. Thanks -- Chris 73 03:18, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- All copyright tags are listed at Commons:Image copyright tags. You can also see how they look like at Commons:Image copyright tags visual. I will delete the celsius image. thanks -- Chris 73 15:50, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Actually, found another source andmore info about the image (see Image:Celsius.jpg). I uploaded ahigher resolution image, and also declared it Public Domain, since the copyright expired -- Chris 73 15:56, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Oh, another tip: On Image:Neckar river watershed.png you stated Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Neckar_river_watershed.png. Do you know that you can easily create interwiki links to pages on other wikis? I added en:Image:Neckar river watershed.png to the image page, which creates a link on the left side underneath the toolbar to the Image:Neckar river watershed.png on the english wiki. Same works for almost all wikis, i.e. de: is german and sv: i swedish etc. Only with the klingon wiki do these interwiki links not work. -- Chris 73 17:00, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Categories in Images
[edit]Hi - is there a reason you removed the categories from Image:Aleutians-space.jpg? I think it's useful to group images by categories, especially as we now have automatic image galleries in categories. What bothers you about that? I will put the cats back in for now, but would like to hear your oppinion abou this. -- Duesentrieb 00:38, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Dez 2004 (CET)
I'll answer in english so other on the commons can follow the discussion if they like.
Please have a look at Commons:Village pump, there are some discussion about wether images should be placed in pages or if they should be grouped into galleries using categories only - especially because they now show as thumbnails there. I personally think that pages are usefull in some cases, but categories are usually sufficient.
As to the problem at hand: I, too, usually place images I upload into pages which I then put into a category. But I also try to structure the many images that are not on any page and also not well categorized (or not at all, except for the copyright-category). I do that using categories, because that is much easyer and fasterm, and helps people to find the images they are looking for. To make this more consisten, I sometimes also add images to those categories even if they are already used on some page.
I think the two approaches (using pages to form galleries, or using categories for images directly) can coexist peacefully. If the images are on a pge, what's the problem with them also being in a category? Please do not remove categories from images, as many belive this to be a more efficient and productive way of creating galleries. I belive this is true in many, but not in all cases. Please join the ongoing discussion about these topic, but do not undo categorisations (except if they are obviously wrong, naturally). Thank you. -- Duesentrieb 00:24, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Apagar LOGOs Nasa
[edit]Oi Marcelo!

[edit]Bomis released this picture under GFDL by decision of Jimmy Wales, executive officer of Bomis. He wrote the cited message saying so, and he also confirmed this to me on IRC. On the other hand, Bomis also releases a whole series of photos, including this one, under another different, non-free, license. (Remember that the same image can be released under different licenses.) Some people had uploaded the lot to commons.
To summarize:
- This is the only Bomis picture we can use under GFDL.
- The other pictures are under non-free licenses (actually, they are under a kind of "web-only-with-link" license which would enable us to use them on Wikipedia, but not on commons; this has nothing to do with fair use).
- I'll delete other Bomis pictures on sight.
- Everything has been confirmed by an executive officer of Bomis, i.e. Jimmy Wales.
By the way, you are supposed to leave messages on images' talk pages, not on the image page itself. David.Monniaux 22:20, 1 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Baby-hitler.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use to release it under the Creative Commons or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you.
In particular, if you wish to claim that an image is public domain due to "70 years after creator's death" you must identify the photographer, and the date of their death! Many thanks, TheGrappler 00:21, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- The "English WP" doesn't really count as a source - what's missing is the original source information. And "70 years after author's death" really isn't obvious - I have found plenty of pre-1900 images that are still under copyright on the 70 years PMA rule. In the USA it may be Public Domain as a foreign pre-1909 image, though. Still, source information is needed to show that it is a photograph of what it purports to show! Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 21:00, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Please help replace this outdated license
[edit]Hello!
Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.
The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.
Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.
The images we would like you to check are:

Bonjour Mschlindwein,
Je viens de supprimer une de tes photos qui représent un bâtiment récent (un édicule Guimard). Il n'y a en effet pas de liberté de panorama en France, et même si c'est bien dommage, Commons se doit de respecter cette interdiction.

[edit]Hi - I would like to use your image of Lichtenstein in an educational software project, but we need an attribution only license.
Can you do that?
Thanks,

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Iranische Sprachen.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Iranische Sprachen.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |
