Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content, User:Michaelphoya, was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at educational media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. The expression “educational” is to be understood according to its broad meaning of “providing knowledge; instructional or informative”. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote. If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. Otherwise, consider an alternative outlet. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. Thank you for your understanding.

Hi Michael, you removed the entire categorization of this category. Please assign at least one suitable category as all categories should be contained in at least one other category. I reassigned Category:Wikimedia movement because it seems to be a Wikimedia project, but feel free to change that into a more appropriate category. --Rudolph Buch (talk) 10:50, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hie Rudolph, thanks for pointing out that. I think the new categorization is in order. Michaelphoya (talk) 04:51, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Category discussion warning

Category:African_wars has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Over categorizing Malawi Images

[edit]

Hi Michaelphoya. Thank you for your great additions to Wikipedia, especially the images of Malawi. I just started to take a look at them and it looks like you may have over-categorized some of the images by putting things like Colonial Africa, History of Malawi and Colonial Malawi. The general rule is that if any of the categories listed are sub-categories of another category then you shouldn't add the other categories, only the lowest possible sub-categories. (You can read more details about this here:COM:OVERCAT). Anyway, I added the category Colonial Malawi to Colonial Africa and History of Malawi. Please try to keep this in mind in the future to prevent over-categorization which causes a lot of clustering of images on pages where they don't belong and if you can please remove the Colonial Africa and History of Malawi categories from the Colonial Malawi images that you tagged. Thanks again!Monopoly31121993 (talk) 12:41, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Monopoly31121993. Apologies for the late reply. Thanks for your kind words, and the concerns you have raised. I will definitely keep them in mind. Regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michaelphoya (talk • contribs)

But note that this permission is for the files mentioned in the attached document. If there is other uploads you need to arrange a permission for them. It may be possible to arrange a more generic permission like "all files uploaded by XXX mentioning source as National Archives of Malawi" or something like that. Jee 06:16, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
