Rotatebot cropping?
Hi Luxo, could you check File:Philodromus_praelustris.jpg please? First version: 750×604 (57 KB), second version: 736×592 (59 KB), comment: "Bot: Rotate 180°". A little part of that spider's leg is missing now. It's not that important, but in general I guess it shouldn't happen, or? --:bdk: 02:34, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Bdk, the problem is explained here. I've uploaded a new version because it's visible in this case. Greetings,--Luxo 18:29, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, thanks for that hint and also for the new version, of course :-) --:bdk: 18:51, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
Translation of derivativeFX
Hello. I'd like to translate the interface for your derivativeFX tool to the Catalan language, in order to make it easier to use for speakers of this language. What should I do? Thanks. --Leptictidium (talk) 12:20, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Destination filename. What does it mean?
Hallo Luxo, I tried to upload a cropped version of an existing image to Commons with the Derivative FX tool, but when I reach the "destination filename" box any name that a give gets the answer "file doesn't exist". Of course it doesn't exist, it's a new name. I don't understand how it works. Can you help me? Thank you, --Gab.pr (talk) 10:13, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
- yes, it means that it doesn't exist, you can upload it under this name. That's not a warning, only a simple note that your name is ok. If you take a name which is already used, you become a warning that this file already exist. greetings--Luxo 11:35, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
I tried to upload File:Cowboys Stadium configured for basketball - cropped.jpg using your tool. It uploaded the file but the text didn't get uploaded. I got a Wikimedia error saying the servers were having problems. Your tool would not let me re-upload it saying it was already uploaded, which was true, but it did not tell me there was no associated text. I thought you would like to know so you can track down the problem and possibly do better error-recovery the next time this happens. Even something as simple as "Oops, something bad happened, your file might or might not be uploaded, and the licensing information and other text might or might not be present, please check it. This error has been logged" would be enough. Davidwr (talk) 21:22, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- because the toolserver is totally independent from wikimedia server, the tool cannot see if a upload was successful or not. But if a upload fails you should be able to press back in your browser and upload it again. Greetings,--Luxo 16:12, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Bot and tool
Hi,
Thanks a lots fot your bot and tool. I used derivativeFX several times and I just test Cropbot. These tools are great. I just discover uvumi (a free croping tool) maybe it can help you (it seems it work with GIF and PNG). Moreover, is it possible to have a tool that extract image from DJVU ? For example, I extract File:Sato Tadanobu with a goban.jpeg from File:Smith - The game of go.djvu. It could be very useful for the Wikisourcers. Thank you again, cdlt, VIGNERON * discut. 13:44, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
- gif and png would be possible to support, but I'm at the moment a bit busy to implant that. Same for a DJVU extract tool, possible is everything, but time.... ;)
- Greetings,--Luxo 16:12, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, thanx.
- When you will have some time (I hope soon for you ), please re-think about it. The wikisourcers use a lot of DJVU but most of them don't really know how to handle this format.

Bilderbot error?
This edit looks like it did not work as expected. /Ö 10:02, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Bilderbot file extension forcing
Hi, I just used Bilderbot for the first time, and was disappointed that it forced the derivative to have a .JPG extension, when the original extension was .jpg (which I am told is more consistent with the file naming guidelines). Otherwise everything worked well. Can you fix this? --99of9 (talk) 02:19, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Bilderbot only notes derivative works in the original files, do you mean DerivativeFX? Derivative FX propose only .JPG if the original ends with .JPG too. Which image do you mean exactly? Thanks --Luxo 16:56, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- OK, I mean DerivativeFX. The problem is it forced me to change case from lower case .jpg to upper case .JPG 99of9 (talk) 20:41, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- I've tested some images, can't see that it change (and if I look the code I don't think that it happens). Which image do you mean exactly?--Luxo 16:38, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
- When I cropped this image File:Kniphofia uvaria.jpg to give this image File:Kniphofia uvaria close.JPG, it wouldn't let me choose .jpg as the file extension, I was forced to use .JPG because it said I wasn't allowed to "change" file type (even though I wanted it to stay the same). In your tests, try starting with a lower case image, and try to name the derivative also with a lower case. --99of9 (talk) 22:25, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Date on FX uploads
Hi Luxo. Once in a while I come across uploads assisted with DerivativeFX, e.g. File:3976 - Zermatt and Riffelalp viewed from Riffelberg - B.jpg. These take the current date rather than the original date the image was taken in the Information templates. At least in images with changes like the above, IMHO, the date should remain the original one. (diff). However, I'm not sure if your tool can or should do something about this. I thought I should mention it though. -- User:Docu at 08:27, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
- Indeed, the date should be the orig one - at least if you've only reworked the orig pic rather than created a whole new pic (derivative). Maybe there should be a switch to select "reworked pic" or "new image composition". Each time it use this tool (for reworked pics), I change the date back to the orig one - manually. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 00:10, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
derivativeFX error
When asked for the "Original work" I use "File:Madagascar range map template.svg", but the page generates the error: "License of this file: File doesn't exist!" - Well there were 3 bad pictures, but I hope now with r210 I have found all bugs ;). A other improvement is that the bot, if the template is already there, don't put the new ones simply ahead of the old one, he sort them by name.--Luxo 15:30, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

$queryurl = "http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&pageids=".$urlpageids."&prop=revisions|imageinfo&format=php&iiprop=timestamp|user|url|size|metadata";
$urlpageids is a list with all id's of the pages, (e.g. "454654|546456|7897897"
). Probably I should make that with a POST-request...--Luxo 21:05, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe it could do it sub-batches of 10 or 20? BTW, I asked Turelio to lower the value. Maybe it works with that. Unless you need it for testing, would you try to have it go through the category in one way or the other? -- User:Docu at 21:28, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

- I still had hopes for 150. As usual, the ones I rotate were upside down for quite some time, so a couple of days more don't matter, but I planned to check if any remained. You could shorten the 6 hour wait? -- User:Docu at 21:56, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Rotatebot category
Hi Luxo. As I had just a few images to rotate, I tried the method you suggested the other day: adding the category with sortkey (e.g. here). The image was rotated, but the category not removed. To avoid that it gets rotated once more, I removed it manually.
BTW, Rotatebot did quite well with the bulk of the series. -- User:Docu at 12:11, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
- Uh sorry that's right he don't remove the category. Do you have more images you like to rotate with the category? --Luxo 12:20, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
- Not for now. I just figured as you mentioned it I should try. If I have to load the image page, it doesn't matter that much which one I use. Still, as HotCat allows to set sortkeys, it's a little bit quicker ;). For the pure lazy, maybe one would even want to add a category redirect from Category:Rotatebot ;) -- User:Docu at 12:25, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Can't login to Cropbot
Hi, I'm trying to use your Cropbot, but when I enter my TUSC name (Svick) and password, is says that “A user with the name svick already exist!” gWatch says “Wrong password!” on the same combination. I know I have the correct password, because I use it with CommonsHelper. Can you help me? Thanks. Svick (talk) 09:24, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
- Cropbot uses the same login system like gWatch. You have probably created a account there, because of that the account already exist.
- The tool ask just at the first login the TUSC-System if the password is correct; after that it saves the password (as a md5-hash) in the own database. So if you had an account on gWatch with a other password, TUSC is not asked for the password verification again.
- But I have removed this account, you can login now with your TUSC password. Greetings,--Luxo 14:42, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Bug in DerivativeFX
Hi! You made a really useful tool, but I noticed it listed the original file and then "created by " with nothing afterwards. After examining the wikimarkup, it says created by [[en:NASA|NASA]]. Commons thinks the file is called NASA on the English Wikipedia! It needs to insert another colon before the en, so it becomes created by [[:en:NASA|NASA]]. Cheers, HereToHelp (talk) 05:31, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Anpassungen derivativeFX - Datum

I can't open file Kamchatka_peninsula_topo.jpg in the page http://toolserver.org/~luxo/derivativeFX/deri1.php in order to upload a derivative file. The upload program gets stuck, probably because that file is so huge. Please help.
- No - it's just because the source file File:Kamchatka_peninsula_topo.jpg has no valid license in the eyes of derivativeFX: "License of this file: No valid license found!" {{PD-USGov-NASA-SRTM}} Is apparently not understood by derivativeFX.
- Workaround if this cannot be fixed promptly: Add {{PD-author|NASA's Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM)}} to the source file. Upload your derivative version.

derivateFX and dates
Hi and thanks for creating a fine tool! At the moment derivateFX always sets the upload date of the derivate work as a date parameter of the derivate work. However, I think it should retain the date in the description page of the original file because that is (or at least should be) the date the original work was created (e.g. photograph taken) and usually that is much more relevant information than the date of the (minor) modification. Moreover, the date of the modification is seen in the file history of the derivative work. BR, --Apalsola t • c 17:46, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

I of course undid it, but I think you should know about it. My image was simply derived from original TOS logo and created in two versions indenpedently on any image uploaded here.

- You misunderstood the template {{Derivative versions}}. It does not mark your image as derivative of another. It is meant the other way round: the other image is a derivative work of your image, which is correct in this case! Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 23:27, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Some notes on derivative fx
Firstly thank you so much for such useful instrument!
- I have to notice you with some problem in uploading files with Internet explorer: the control of filename in wikimedia archives doesn't work for 3 times on 3. Conversely it work proper using Mozilla Firefox.
- Another minor problem is in updating of categories aquired by former file. Normally who used derivative fx has limited to add a new category, and probably doesn't note the formers ones. Is it possible to use a template where this matter is more evident?
The problem is in creating a lot of files inserted in wrong categories using in example a blank map as canvas to draw a biological areal.Ciaurlec (talk) 21:59, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
270° rotation messed up
Rotatebot messed up rotation of File:A_large_barge_in_Tournai_on_the_Escaut..jpg: did the correct rotation, then later another 90° rotation which is wrong. I have reverted to the correct version. Bjung (talk) 14:27, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
- Looks like the 6 o'clock run omitted removing {{rotate|270}} for this image. Docu at 20:16, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
