Hello. Please close this user and all related accounts Globally. All of the following accounts, which are closed locally and globally, belong to him. In addition, some of them in different languages probably do not make good sense. In all wikis, in addition to sabotaging articles, he insults different users of different ethnicities. He is of Turkish ethnicity. He has created countless accounts in Azerbaijani and Turkish articles and has insulted users of Armenian, Kurdish, Persian and Arab ethnicity on various wikis. Many users left Wikipedia forever with insults and threats made by him.

Khalili Collections licensing

[edit]

Hi and thanks for your interest in the Khalili Collections images and for finding a use for them on Wikipedia. I wanted to inquire where you got the OTRS ticket number you used on the images you uploaded, since according to the page history you are not an OTRS admin. Has a staff member of the Khalili Collections actually given permission for the release of these images under the given licence? I'm the Wikimedian In Residence for the Khalili Collections so I'm working on the assumption that images are being released by the staff member I'm in contact with, in consultation with me. I've raised the issue with a post on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard which you should be able to see in your alerts. Cheers, MartinPoulter (talk) 17:39, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@MartinPoulter: Hi Martin, thank you for your message. I just replied at the noticeboard. I really hope we can find a solution so that the images can stay at Commons. - LouisAragon (talk) 18:05, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@MartinPoulter: Hi. Just noticed that all Khalili pictures I uploaded have been deleted. That's really unfortunate. Hope they can be re-uploaded at some point in the future. Please don't hesitate to let me know if I can be of any assistance. - LouisAragon (talk) 19:02, 18 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OTRS told me the simplest procedure was to let the deletion go through. It's frustrating because a permissions email was definitely sent in, but OTRS didn't acknowledge it. I've reuploaded the three lacquer images that had a use, and they are now covered by the special permissions arrangement for the Khalili Collections. I can upload the others easily - do you have uses for them in mind? MartinPoulter (talk) 20:40, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@MartinPoulter: Do you think you could re-upload these ones as well?(all three)-(only LAQ 282, lid interior) These files were deleted at the time, but they would be of good use for these articles on Wikipedia (just to name a few;[1]-[2]) And, no worries, I know you tried your best at the time ; ) - LouisAragon (talk) 21:13, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Done! File:Khalili_Collection_Islamic_Art_laq-0020a-front.jpg, File:Khalili Collection Islamic Art laq-0020-back.jpg, File:Khalili Collection Islamic Art laq-0020b-front.jpg, File:Khalili Collection Islamic Art laq-0282-interior.jpg. The categorisation and captioning you're doing is amazing! Great to see, and glad these images are of use to you. MartinPoulter (talk) 13:43, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@MartinPoulter: Much appreciated, thanks! You're welcome! - LouisAragon (talk) 23:02, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:The South Caucasus in the last quarter of the 18th century (George Bournoutian, 2021).jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:The South Caucasus in the last quarter of the 18th century (George Bournoutian, 2021).jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

@Maxinvestigator: Hi there, and thank you for your message. Brill (the publisher of the book) lists all maps within the book as "free access".[3] The author of the book, George Bournoutian, also died a few weeks ago. I wouldn't know what I would need to do in order to keep this map on Commons, but the map is of great encyclopedic value and hence it being deleted would be a loss. Perhaps you know what to do? - LouisAragon (talk) 19:16, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Good. I was dating a lot during last several months and you can see comparison with other countries by year, decade, century, millennium: Iran stands better than India and China combined in all four categories. Only four major EU countries sometimes stands better, but after I pass all art files, it will also change. Just I'm not sure about Italy (by year standing). :) --Orijentolog (talk) 19:53, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gold 5 tomans of Fath-Ali Shah Qajar, minted in Tabriz

[edit]

Hi, I just renamed File:Gold 5 tomans of Fath-Ali Shah Qajar, minted in Tabriz, dated 1811-2. Intended as treasure coin, such multiple toman coins were presented to special recipients on the occasion of Nowruz celebrations.jpg per your request. But, don't you think the title is too long for a file? Thanks. --Mhhossein talk 13:54, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Mhhossein: Yeah its quite long. I want readers to instantly realise that it was a special coin, and not just a regular one. I will think of a new name. Thanks for letting me know. - LouisAragon (talk) 14:05, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. It is indeed a special coin Louis. I was just suggesting my thoughts, you don't have to change it. --Mhhossein talk 02:41, 29 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hoax recreated

[edit]

Few years ago some jolly person created the article Sura of Parthia which was identified as fake, deleted and listed among the famous hoaxes ever. The story about "one of the greatest ancient female commanders-in-chief" obviously gained online popularity in meanwhile, appeared on several internet outlets, so it was recreated again as Princess Sura of Parthia. I personally checked both primary and scholarly sources so I can assure you that such person never existed. Herodian do mentions some daughter, but as unnamed, and not as a military commander. --Orijentolog (talk) 01:39, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The Tireless Art Uploader Barnstar
For your artwork uploads! :) --Orijentolog (talk) 07:28, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for a barnstar, you also deserve one for all those uploads (which I should categorize one day). Just to remind you, Commons is basically an easy thing, and a hard one is on Wikidata because virtually all items of thousands of buildings are solidly referenced (encyclopedias, books, etc). Locations, periods, dates, materials... everything. It gives comprehensive & reliable infoboxes on Commons, but also a fine basis for future Wiki articles (some projects import it automatically), which you may find of interest. By the way, few things:

Take care. --Orijentolog (talk) 07:28, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Orijentolog: Many thanks! Appreciate it. Yeah there's still a lot of work to do, but I'd say its definitely heading the right direction :-) As for Wikidata, yeah I read about that feature quite recently actually. Its definitely a really nifty feature. As for the reorganization of Category:Qajar art; I think we definitely need "Category:Qajar manuscripts". I'll get back at you later with more suggestions. - LouisAragon (talk) 22:54, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Finally I opened it (Qajar manuscripts), sorry for waiting! :) I promised to help but, frankly speaking, I'm a charlatan for manuscripts & miniatures. Regarding Wikidata, take a look at Arabic Jameh Mosque of Bersian: their infobox contains some 20 informations, and virtually everything is imported from Wikidata, even references. Some other larger Wikipedias also use such system, however, English does not. I don't say you must rely on data which I import inside Wikidata, but it's highly helpful for starting a new article. Even if not implemented in English boxes, you can always jump directly to Wikidata and check for basics. An interesting thing is Wikidata's "what links here" gives 1126 results for Qajar architecture, followed by Safavid (631), Pahlavi (359), Seljuk (251), Ilkhanid (219), Timurid (171), Sassanid (129), Zand (128), Achaemenid (60), Buyid (58), Afsharid (51), and few others. For a comparison, Ottoman has 651 and Mughal only 57. I think that I edited more than 3,000 individual buildings there. Multiplying with some 10 basic properties, and with a reference, sometimes two, sometimes five... could be somewhat between 50,000 and 100,000 of my ref-links in total. :) --Orijentolog (talk) 02:55, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think about this proposal to change it to Khudafarin? It's strange for me because in the literature from my private library, most frequent terms are Khoda Afarin, Khoda-Afarin, Khodaafarin and Khuda Afarin. Correct me if I'm wrong. --Orijentolog (talk) 17:08, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Orijentolog: I was surprised as well, regarding the Khoda Afarin article that is. Tbh, I haven't properly researched the topic, but I wonder whether certain "interests" are at play in relation to the requested move. PS: many thanks for creating the much needed Qajar manuscripts category! - LouisAragon (talk) 02:02, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Could your presumption of bad faith be even more obvious? This is not the first or second time, and I do not have the patience of a saint. — Golden call me maybe? 15:09, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ehm, what? I didn't even mention you by name, nor did I state anything specifically about the move. I have good reason however to question the objectivity of any of such edits, given the well-recorded history of your editorial pattern at Eng.Wiki. However, I didn't formulate any conclusions. In the end, I could care less whether its named Khudafarin, Khoda Afarin, Khudaaa/Khodaaa Afarin, or Planet Vegeta; as long as the move abides to Wikipedia's policies. If you think such passive-aggressive commentary will get you anywhere further, you're mistaken. - LouisAragon (talk) 18:14, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In the meanwhile I found out that R. N. Frye in Cambridge History of Iran uses Khudafarin, and A. U. Pope in A survey of Persian art uses Khuda Afarin, therefore I'm fine with the move. --Orijentolog (talk) 20:36, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Saying that you're wondering if "certain interests are at play" is a clear personal attack and accusation of bad faith at my character. If you want to question the objectivity of my edits in a noticeboard or an admin's talk page, you're free to do so, but do not go around besmirching my name just because I've previously been topic banned. That does not give you the permission to assume bad faith. This is not the first time I or others have asked you to stop, so please do so. — Golden call me maybe? 06:46, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

When you get some time, please solve two issues:

  1. Merge en:Hoshoun Castle and en:Qanj Ali Khan Afshar Castle, it's the same place.
  2. Remove ilustration from en:Chehel Dokhtaran mausoleum, it's from Damghan (Chehel Dokhtaran Tower (Damghan)), not Kashan (Chehel Dokhtaran Mausoleum (Kashan)).

No hurry, take your time. :) --Orijentolog (talk) 06:25, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Illustrated history books/chronicles categories

[edit]

Louis, at this moment my main concern is categorization of Persian miniatures, or, in a more wider sense, illuminated manuscripts from Iran. Of course it is connected with literary works, like chronicles of different kinds. Still, I think that doing this now will be too much for me. In fact, I think that probably I already have too much on my plate in wikipedia. If you want to do it, do it. I'm sure that you will know what you are doing. But, at least at this moment, I will pass. P.S. Thanks for all your thanks, I really appreciate it. Really:) And thanks for all your good work from me too:) I really see it--Nous (talk) 08:12, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Nous: No hurry, at all. :-) The only thing that matters is that we both agree that it might be useful "at some point" when either one of us (or someone else) has more spare time. We do what we can do, and the rest will wait for as long as needed. :-) - LouisAragon (talk) 00:09, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Jahangosha-ye Naderi at Sothby's

[edit]

Hey Louis, hope you're alright. How did you get different folios from the Sothbey's auction on Jahangosha-ye Naderi? I see they have two paintings depicting Shahrokh Shah Afshar and I would like to get them. Thanks. Amir Ghandi (talk) 08:09, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Amir Ghandi: Hey, yeah I wish we could find all pictures. Would be a very valuable addition to Commons and in turn Wikipedia. I had a discussion about this with the user (Mv1388) who found uploaded most of these pictures (here[4]). Only a few are apparently to be found on the internet (through Facebook), the location of the rest remains unknown unfortunately. I guess a final solution would be emailing Sotheby's? - LouisAragon (talk) 23:34, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi dear LouisAragon. thanks for upload of this File. can you upload high quality this file? you can use this link Mv1388 (talk) 01:55, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Mv1388: Hey, thanks. Yeah I uploaded them in a very clunky way back in the day in png. I need to do a re-upload of those in jpg/jpeg. Will fix it in the nearest future. - LouisAragon (talk) 02:03, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In addition, it is written here that Fath Ali Shah killed general Ashanjdār, which It is also written incorrectly in the source. I realized that, Ashanjdār (ایشپخدر) is the same general Pavel Tsitsianov who retreated after the attack on Yerevan and was killed later (Siege of Erivan (1804)). In fact, this is image of Fath Ali Shah killing the Russian soldier. Mv1388 (talk) 16:32, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
