Roman crossbow or not?
Hi. I saw you also uploaded pictures from Roman sarcophagi in the Museo Nazionale, Rome. Now there is a highly interesting sarcophagus excavated in the vicinity of Rome in the 1960s. It depicts Hercules shooting a bow at the Stymphalian Birds (p. 501, fig. 7, left): The Illustrated London News (6 April 1963) - The Labours of Hercules, p. 500-501. This bow has been identified by some scholars as the third known example of a Roman crossbow (see Category:Roman crossbows for the other two). According to the article, it was planned to move the sarcophagus to the Museo Nazionale in Rome, but I don't know about its exact whereabouts and as yet I have been unable to find images of it. Could you help me out? I'd like to have some high-res photos to determine whether this is a real crossbow (which would be quite a notable discovery). Gun Powder Ma (talk) 18:18, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

À ton avis…
Hello !
