Notification about possible deletion

[edit]
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

I filled out the OTRS form and emailed it.

Notability The notability question arose when Starry Grandma who reviewed the initial Wikipedia submission felt that notability was a question. However, at the same time she offered to work with me to improve the page. In our following interchanges whe saw the documentation about my work and became a supporter, even buying a copy of my book herself and adding to the historical background of my project. Then she left Wikipedia for several months. My pending page was ultimately picked up by W. Carter. The history page makes note of some minor changes she made to the Wikipedia page. It was she who created the Janice Lourie category. She put three of my images into the category and urged me to make my future cotnributions to it.

modification of preexisting work The file:File:Looking west from midmanhattan 10a.tif was elongated by me to represent an overwhelming sensation of the verticality of New York City. The original is mine. A good graphic can be manipulated without destroying its essence. and I wanted all those images to reach high. Please tell me if its not ok to do that.Janvermont (talk) 17:19, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Janvermont (talk) 20:08, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jan: I moved your statement above to Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Janvermont so it would be included in the deletion nomination. You did great on the editing! Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:21, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikimedia Commons. While everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the project, one or more of your file uploads had missing or false information regarding its source and copyright status. Please note that Wikimedia Commons takes copyright rules and infringement very seriously. Files may only be uploaded and included if their copyright status meets the conditions stated in our licensing policy, and if their provenance is clearly documented. Files that fail to meet those conditions may be deleted, and users who fail to meet them may be blocked. Please follow our first steps, if you haven't already. If you have questions, feel free to ask at the Village Pump copyright question page or on my talk page. Thank you.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 09:19, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Commons has a specific scope

Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at educational media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. The expression “educational” is to be understood according to its broad meaning of “providing knowledge; instructional or informative”. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote. If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. Otherwise, consider an alternative outlet. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. Thank you for your understanding.

proposal to authenticate Janice Lourie Wikipedia page

[edit]

@Jeff G.: I think I found your response in which you believe I deserve a Wikipedia page. If I am correct I would like to agree on a plan with you before I begin to document every item on the page. The one person involved in the original submission was an IBM employee, Nitta Dooner, I hired in 1968, who published several papers with me and has remained a friend. Many items are available via Google - in google books and on Google scholar. I will search correspondence and other sources. Please tell me what will meet your requirements.Janvermont (talk) 16:22, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't have time for that. Further to Jmabel's reply below at 01:06, 31 July 2020 (UTC), article en:Janice Lourie is currently tagged as having COI and Autobiography issues from this month. It is not subject to deletion, but a file used there, File:Kcomposite egyptian reflection.jpg, is one of many subject to deletion in the 2nd section of Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Janvermont.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:54, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Jmabel: - proposal to Jmabel to authenticate Janice Lourie Wikipedia page - Thank you for believing I should have a Wikipedia page. I would like to agree on a plan with you before I begin to document every item on the current Wikipedia page. The one person involved in the writing of the original submission was an IBM employee, Nitta Dooner, I hired in 1968, who published several papers with me and has remained a friend. Many items are available via Google - in google books and on Google scholar. I will search correspondence and other sources. I believe the extensive work by Starry Grandma and w.carter, wherein I believe they authenticated every claim, should be available in their archives. They both indicated that complete documentation would fix the problem of my participation in the creation. (I began by "conversing" with Teahouse. I believe they said writing about yourself was frowned on, but not impossible to accept and the complexity of my work kept me involved. (Not sure where I went wrong.) Please tell me what will meet your requirements.Janvermont (talk) 14:11, 15 July 2020 (UTC)Janvermont (talk) 14:13, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Again: read en:WP:COI. While I believe there should be a page about you, you are not the person who should be writing it. There is no way that you can write objectively and neutrally about yourself. The closest I ever came to that was writing about my own great aunt Lena Levine. In there I nonetheless have statements like, "Her frank advocacy of sex education and her openly positive view of pre-marital sex have made her a target of sexual conservatives to this day" and "With her husband's death and her son's retardation, she gave up obstetrics…" If there were equivalents in your own life, could you write about them in a neutral tone? It was hard enough for me with a relative I knew when I was a child. - Jmabel ! talk 15:09, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Jmabel: my idea was to let someone else not me authenticate what starry grandma and w.carter said were acceptable. I did not write the original anyway, it was Nitta Dooner so I wont consider that acceptable either because of the possible prejudice of friendship. Let us move on. How about: you find someone who doesn't know me to authenticate the existing or begin from scratch using the internet .... Maybe you could do or start it. In any case your call. I appreciate your example.Janvermont (talk) 15:40, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Jmabel: Very many thanks for the noticeboard. Quick question: should I state my availability in the space above StarryGrandma's offer to help, or below it. I.e, do I want to keep all contributions together.72.71.223.119 12:08, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Post at the end of the section. The only time that is not the write thing to do is when threads of conversation have become so tangled that it would otherwise be difficult to see what you were replying to. - Jmabel ! talk 20:50, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Jmabel: I found that my noticeboard listing has been archived. I assume that is because of no responses for a predetermined period of time. However, I have to check to see if that means my Wikipedia Article is still nominated for deletion. I received a positive note from StarryGrandma and a preliminary edit, but nothing for a while. Can you please tell me where I stand. Thank you.Janvermont (talk) 15:40, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Why would you think the article is nominated for deletion? Nothing at en:Janice Lourie indicates that it is. There are issues identified -- not issues you can solve, since they are mostly about involvement by people too close to the subject -- but they shouldn't lead to deletion.
  • May I suggest that if you have further issues about the English-language Wikipedia, take them up on the English-language Wikipedia? Yes, both sites are umbrella'd by the Wikimedia Foundation, and there are of course some people (myself among them) active on both, but they are separate sites and, in particular they have different rules and make editorial decisions independently of one another. - Jmabel ! talk 01:06, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
