Your VFC installation method is deprecated
Hello Jane023, we are aware that using the old installation method of VFC (via common.js, which you are using) may not work reliably anymore and can break other scripts as well. A detailed explanation can be found here. Important: To prevent problems please remove the old VFC installation code from your common.js and instead enable the VFC gadget in your preferences. Thanks! --VFC devs (q) 16:23, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
Paintings of art collections has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Question
Jane, what do you think about merging Category:Isabella Parasole into Category:Isabella Catanea Parasole? --Taterian (talk) 21:48, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
- Ooooh those images are lovely! They all seem to be from one publication, which should also be put into Italian Wikisource under the Italian book title. There is nothing wrong with a category for the artist that is missing the middle name - I think that increases rather than decreases findability and useability. I will make a redirect for Category:Isabella Catanea Parasole, but these images should all be in a book category that is a sub-category to her category. These are (hopefully) not her only work, but in any case these images are by her and not of her. Jane023 (talk) 06:03, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
- A job well done! --Taterian (talk) 02:04, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
15th-century portraits of women with veils
You are putting several paintings in the category 15th-century portraits of women with veils, although they are not 15th-century portraits at all. Why is that? Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 19:10, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
- no idea. Jane023 (talk) 01:35, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
- I am sorry, Jane, i mistakenly asked this you. It was someone else I wanted to address. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 09:53, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
Adriaen Coorte catalog raisonné, 1977
Hi! I noticed that within the gallery Adriaen Coorte catalog raisonné, 1977 different page numbers are using the same image. For example pages 17 and 18, pages 33 and 34, pages 32 and 35, pages 33 34 36. Is it correct? -- Basilicofresco (msg) 17:43, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
- Yes. The catalog is the first catalog of Coorte, done long before the days he became so popular. The art historian included all possible references and placed similar catalog items next to each other in his list. In this case, he suspected they were the same but at the time he had no way of verifying this. Hard to believe now that Coorte paintings have become so popular on today's art market. Code issues in User:Jane023/common.js
Hi Jane023, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.
Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:
- You edited User:Jane023/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
- Though, that change appears to introduce 6 new jshint issues — the page's status is now having ERRORS. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
- To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

restore files
Hi, Mr. Jane, I am writing to ask you if you could restore some PD files while keeping a recently blocked user, I had tried to do some bugs at the COM: UDR, but without many results, I would ask her if they could do something for some recovery:

Missing creators and institutions
Hi Jane, we talked about this. See User:Multichill/Missing creators and User:Multichill/Missing institutions. Looks like we need to add some missing links here. Multichill (talk) 17:10, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 is weer begonnen!
Beste Jane023,
Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 is vorige week begonnen!
Let's make Commons Conference a reality
Hello Jane,
I'm writing you as one of the Sum of all Paintings leaders. Since a while now, the idea of a dedicated Commons conference has been floating around. But since the last Wikimania concrete steps have been taken to actually make it happen next year. If you're interested in participation or maybe willing to help organize the first ever Commons Conference, I invite you to check out the project page and add your ideas; or just show your support for the idea, by signing up.
Cheers,
--MB-one (talk) 09:07, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
Welcome to the Structured Commons focus group!
Hello! Thank you very much for signing up to the community focus group for Structured Commons :-)
- How to organize ourselves?
This focus group is new and experimental, and I welcome your tips and thoughts on how we can organize this in the most convenient and productive way. For now, I have posted a few separate topics on the focus group's talk page. Please add your questions there too! If we all add that page to our watchlist, that's probably a good way to stay up to date with current discussions. Steinsplitter has also initiated a brand new IRC channel specifically for Structured Commons: wikimedia-commons-sd (webchat) which we invite you to join. Please let me know if you have other ideas on how to work together.
- Current updates
- For your agenda: IRC office hour about Structured Commons, Tuesday 21 November at 18:00 UTC in wikimedia-office (webchat).
- A newsletter about Structured Commons is sent out later today. Its frequency will probably increase from now on. You are warmly invited to contribute to next issues — don't hesitate to add updates.
- The documentation and info pages about Structured Data on Commons have received a thorough (and much overdue) update this week, in order to get them ready for all the upcoming work. Obsolete pages were archived. There are undoubtedly still a lot of omissions and bits that are unclear. You can help by editing boldly, and by leaving feedback and tips on the talk pages.
- More things (logo? tools?) to be discussed on the focus group's talk page!
Warmly, your community liaison, SandraF (WMF) (talk)

to your userpage!Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in the United States during the month of October! The United States contest saw over 1,400 people (the most of any nation this year) contribute over 8,000 great photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the United States and its territories. Hundreds of these photos are already being used to illustrate pages on various Wikimedia projects.
We're excited to announce that our national judging process has concluded, and that we have selected the winners of Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in the United States! These photos are recognized for their photographic quality, artistic merit, and their encyclopedic value as illustrations of unique historical sites. We were amazed by all of the uploads, and regret only being able to formally recognize the top 10. That being said – congratulations to our national winners and their amazing shots! Our 10 winners will be sent to the international Wiki Loves Monuments jury, who will then select the winners of the international contest. If you're interested in seeing the winners of the other national contests, you may do so at Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 winners.
If you would like to view all the photos submitted for the U.S. this year, you may do so here.
Finally, we have also created a feedback form for all U.S. participants to fill out. The survey is optional and anonymous, and only takes a minute or two – we hope to use the feedback to organize better events in the future!
A quick thank you to our national jury, as well as Commons editors who have helped categorize and place photos for the event. And finally, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments and helping to preserve our history through photography - we hope to see you again for future Commons photography events!
~Kevin Payravi & Nikikana, from Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States (16:26, 15 November 2017 (UTC))
