Categorization
[edit]Hi, thanks for your message on my talk page. It appears that you may be misunderstanding the principles of categorization on Wikimedia Commons. I recommend that you should study in detail the article Commons:Categorization, and in particular the over-categorization section. In terms of aircraft, this means that for example a category of 'MiG-29 in Slovakian service' is sufficient for such an image, and comes under the higher category of 'Aircraft of the Slovakian air force', that comes under 'Air Force of Slovakia'. So, the latter category should not be applied to the image of an individual aircraft. Personally, I believe such categories should be in the form 'MiG-29 (Slovakian air force)', but someone else has already widely applied the ambiguous "... in Xxxxx service" format. In general, we delete categories from aircraft images that belong to aircraft type categories, otherwise over-categorization can easily occur.
- With respect to the images at the Kosice aircraft museum, I applied an existing category for the technical museum headquarters in the absence of one for the aircraft museum itself, but unfortunately that category was already not appropriate for the sole image of the building, and that category should now be renamed. What we need is a more relevant category name for the aircraft museum, as a sub-category of the technical museum (Slovenské technické múzeum). I have a listing of about 60 aircraft under 'Slovenské technické múzeum - Letecke múzeum', but that is unnecessarily long for a Commons category. Perhaps 'Letecke múzeum Košice' would be a suitable and concise choice. I hope this will help you deal better with categories.PeterWD (talk) 13:03, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
File:Antonov An-24 Slovak Air Force.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Jagermeister. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Jagermeister~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
