You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:56, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

- I've tried to work out how categorizing works here, but I'm afraid I'm not quite up to it. Sorry. /--Idunius (talk) 15:47, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
File tagging File:Kjell Hedvall.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Kjell Hedvall.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

- I'm sorry User:Tiven2240 but I don't see what information is missing. I am the creator and copyright hinder of the photograph and I uploaded it using the Commons-app, and I have licensed it as my own work and with a standard license. So what more is needed? Idunius (talk) 17:43, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
If so than I would be very pleased if you follow the instructions on COM:OTRS. This will surely be helpful. --✝iѵɛɳ२२४०†ลℓк †๏ мэ 17:47, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
- I can do that, User:Tiven2240 but it would be helpful none the less if you could tell me what is missing in the information I supplied when I uploaded the picture, since I can't see that the claim that information is missing is warranted, and I would like to know how to avoid making any mistake in the future. Much obliged. Idunius (talk) 18:12, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
The image seems not to be clear and like a little bit cropped from main Image. So to confirm that you are the original copyright holder OTRS is recommended. Don't get worried even if image gets deleted it gets automatically restored by OTRS agent once confirmed even if you release it in free License it must have Personality rights. Make sure you read COM:L, AND COM:PEOPLE further info.--✝iѵɛɳ२२४०†ลℓк †๏ мэ 18:25, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
- Is there any special reason why you choose not to use indentation? You are right, the image is cropped. I chose to crop it since it was photographed in a public place but contained identifiable people who do not hold public office, besides the man who does. The photograph hence follows all rules and I also provided correct information and license. I thank you for the advice, but under the circumstances I prefer taking the risk of the pic being deleted to reaffirming a license alteady given correctly. Kind regards Idunius (talk) 18:39, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
