I tried to help, but I don't have much time
I have tried to challenge many deletion tags, but I really don't have much time. The person that tagged them is unwilling to change them to regular deletion requests and I don't have the time to change the license for every file. I hope other users will help, but unfortunately I have too many projects that I am working on to continue with these. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 08:49, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Donald,
- Thank you for trying.
- I am very very worried now about this development. I upload images form my private collection archive for educational purposes only, for sharing them with the public.
Do not understand why I am being targeted here. I do not ask anything for sharing them, just that the public can enjoy them.
- Thank you again,
- Neil
- Huddyhuddy (talk) 11:04, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- I will try to help more once I get the time. It is because you tagged the images with the wrong copyright © tags as most are in the public domain, also you listed yourself as the author, but with "author" they mean the person that made the original document. You can prevent these files from being deleted by adding the author as for example "The government of the British Mandate of Palestine" and then the copyright © would be "{{PD-Israel}}". --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 11:11, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
Hi again, How does one change them? I am not familiar with this. Thank you, Neil Huddyhuddy (talk) 11:09, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- Please see this edit: https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:MobileDiff/566046151&type=revision
- Each and every file has to be altered based on the issuing government (British Palestine, Nazi Germany, Second Polish Republic, Ottoman Empire, Etc.) and have the correct copyright © tags added.
- By the way, can I said up an archive which puts posts on your talk page older than 6 (six) months to an archive page? I have to do a lot of scrolling to get to places on your talk page and it would only keep the latest relevant discussions here, while the older ones wouldn't be deleted, just moved to a special page. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 11:15, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
If it helps, please do. Huddyhuddy (talk) 11:20, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
Undeletions
By the way, after this whole ordeal is done I want to request undeletions for files of yours that were previously deleted to have them restored. But I need to find the time for that as well. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 11:18, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Donald,
- Thank you! You are a beacon of light in these dark moments for me! thank you!
- Neil Huddyhuddy (talk) 11:21, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- I have asked other volunteers to help out with this, I will make screenshots of how to upload images of passports and other documents soon to help you out so this won't ever happen again in the future. I really enjoy seeing your images on Wikipedia and have learned a lot about global history thanks to your donations. Keep being the awesome man you are. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 11:34, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

Instructions on how to upload files
I have made this guide below to prevent future deletions.
-
First select a file to be uplaoded.
-
Then attribute the author of THE DOCUMENT as the "Author", you can list that the file came from your own collection.
-
Select an applicable copyright © license. Usually it is "PD-[Country of issud]", different countries have different copyright © laws so always check first.
-
Double check to see if this copyright © license applies to the file.
-
Fill in all the fields in these steps.
-
Make sure to also list the date the document was issued, as for whatever reason people ignore titles and never actually read the documents.
I hope that this helps. I have tried to make it as simple as possible. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 12:00, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
This looks very nice and not difficult! when I upload images in the future will make use of these guidelines! thanks Donald! I am just worried that all my previous hard work of sharing images publicly for educational purposes will go down the drain...again, thank you very much for the patience and help! Huddyhuddy (talk) 12:08, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

National provenance
It is impossible to figure out what license goes on File:Robert haim passport.jpg unless we know what country it came from. What country does it come from, please? Thank you. DS (talk) 17:58, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

Parts of a composite
This image is a problem, because having a document issued by Bailey combined with one issued to Bailey is just confusing, especially when they're not from the same year. Could you upload the two items separately (and provide correct information about them) ? Thanks. DS (talk) 22:40, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
Hello, One document is his 1950 US diplomatic passport and the other is a Polish Government in Exile passport issued to a young Jewish teenager who used it to escape Europe for the US. Both are part of my private archive of WW2 and Holocaust related material. Where to upload them? Huddyhuddy (talk) 05:23, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

- Hello, would you mean to upload the separate passport images? I could do that. Huddyhuddy (talk) 12:21, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, that's 100% what I meant. DS (talk) 20:31, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- Alright, understood now. Huddyhuddy (talk) 20:39, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
Nansenausweis Lew/Löwe Merkin
Could you tell me the file name of your upload, that is used by this newspaper: [1] [2]. Or even better, put it into Category:Nansen passport. Thank you! --78.54.62.130 00:05, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
Interesting and useful
collection: File:1945 post-war Polish passport.jpg, File:Leon Paweł Marchlewski (passport).jpg etc. - thank you.
Do you know what this one says? It seems to start with "partisant's характеристика" - "characteristics", his profile that is. I would like to use it to update an article in a non-en wiki.
In return, I can help you with transcribing or updating similar pl, cs, sk documents, if needed. Zezen (talk) 11:36, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
Hello, Unfortunately I have this document since 1990 but never had it translated. Apparently he was of Jewish decent and he had himself baptized and become Christian during the war and joined the partisans after escaping German capture. I appreciate all the help, thank you Huddyhuddy (talk) 11:53, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for the explanation, Huddy. I will quote and ref our exchange and this info in related wikiprojects (Polish/Russian etc. wikisource) where they specialize in such complicated transcriptions: hopefully we will all learn what it says. Do ping me (@) if you need help or have updates, as I do not observe your Talk.
- Bows, Zezen (talk) 09:47, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- Huddy, we got the transcription, thanks to @Rita Rosenbaum from https://ru.wikisource.org/:

- 4 AUG 1944
- I am impressed that it worked and by the speed.
- Ping @Ankry who had helped me start the process in plwikisource. Zezen (talk) 08:50, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
File copyright status
Welcome to Wikimedia Commons. While everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the project, one or more of your file uploads had missing or false information regarding its source and copyright status. Please note that Wikimedia Commons takes copyright rules and infringement very seriously. Files may only be uploaded and included if their copyright status meets the conditions stated in our licensing policy, and if their provenance is clearly documented. Files that fail to meet those conditions may be deleted, and users who fail to meet them may be blocked. Please follow our first steps, if you haven't already. If you have questions, feel free to ask at the Village Pump copyright question page or on my talk page. Thank you. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 12:27, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you Jeff. Best Rgrds, Huddyhuddy (talk) 12:50, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
- Ouch. Let me thus add @Piotrus here: see our exchange with Huddy above.
- Myself, Piotrus, a couple of non-en wikis and maybe the Milhist (Poland, Russia, Germany, Belarus, Israel...) colleagues can appreciate the value of the examples I gave above plus e.g. your File:1940 jointly issued ID for the city of Przemyśl with the German & Russian languages being used.jpg, File:Rare 1919 German issued permit to cross the demarcation line between Poland and Germany into Posen territory that would be ceded later on due to an apparent Polish majority.jpg . Too often similar WW1 and WW2 related materials have been deleted from Commons due to similar copyvio claims, too strict IMHO.
- Piotrus: do you have an idea how to help Huddy here? Maybe a notice to the Milhist folks who may decipher, timecode and contextualize these would help? Zezen (talk) 10:17, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- Additional FYI for Piotrus: here I have found a list of such almost deleted documents uploaded by Hudda (and the Commoners' discussion), wow, additional examples:
- I could not find there the ones that are gone by now. Have there been any, Hudd? Thanks again for your work here! Zezen (talk) 10:28, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for the reply Zezen, Huddyhuddy (talk) 11:12, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- I am just sad that historical images from my private archive collection from WW2 that I scanned for sharing online are deleted, these are all in my collection, not from anywhere else. Huddyhuddy (talk) 11:14, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- I am not sure exactly what you are asking, but maybe User:Piotrus/PolishCopyright can be of use? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 04:59, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- Dear @Piotrus: thanks, your workflow is of use.
- The background (which I intimated above) is that I am not an expert about Commons and its copyright and thus do not want to focus on this project while Huddy has spent enough time scanning and uploading and replying to these copyvio challenges. Thus I have had a idea of a crosswiki collaboration to help Huddy (and us all, also crosswiki) thereby. See the thread above Interesting and useful, where Rita from an unrelated project helped us decipher this ru 2WW "guerrilla recommendation letter", which by now is in my Drafts in plwikisource also in pl. Useful template
Try using "Template:Private collection" for provenance. DS (talk) 22:56, 12 September 2021 (UTC)
- This is a new concept? interesting! Neil Huddyhuddy (talk) 06:11, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
