User talk:Hailey C. Shannon~commonswiki
Hi - I do not understand your edit to Image:Bowral3JasmineStreet.jpg categorising it as 2006. Although the picture was indeed taken in 2006, as are many many pictures on commons, the year of photography has nothing to do with anything as far as I can see. Can you please explain?--AYArktos 10:24, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
Please don't categorise by year
[edit]Hi Hailey. I noticed that you seem to have embarked on a mass campaign to give images year categories as AYArktos stated above. Please don't do this, it's a very bad idea. Categories should describe the content, the subject of the photo, not give metadata about it such as "made in 2006" (which is what is implied by Category:2006), "used in X project", "photo by X" etc. (In the latter case such categories are allowed, but they should always be used with descriptive categories as well.) People will not look in Category:2006 to find every image ever uploaded during that time there. They will look for major events, which is why you can see articles like 2006 Australian Open, 2006 Winter Olympics there.
It's great that you want to help with categorisation -- we need all the help we can get. But I suggest you turn your hand to giving images that have NO categories, some useful, descriptive ones. Here are some tools to help you:
- OrphanImages
- CommonSense (I find this more useful) -- hit "random orphan"

Also, please provide source and licensing information for Image:Albuqerque Manhole.jpg, otherwise it will be deleted. Thanks, pfctdayelise (translate?) 02:48, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
Warning
[edit]This is a formal warning. Stop categorising images by year or you will face a ban. Only images that represent significant events during one particular year should be categorised that way. pfctdayelise (translate?) 05:41, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Hailey C. Shannon. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Hailey C. Shannon~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
