Your recent uploads referring to Category:Kolkata Book Fair : Categorisation
Hi Gangulybiswarup,
Please do not categorize your uploads (an example of your recent activity):
- Category:Kolkata Book Fair +
- Category:Kolkata +
- Category:Culture of Kolkata +
- Category:West Bengal +
- Category:India
Please save time and capacity on commons by categorizing:
- Category:Kolkata Book Fair (and for example Category:People of Kolkata)
Please use as far as possible the category of the regarding city/town/village or district (if there's no category) respectively the above mentioned event in Kolkata, i.e. the "most fitting" category(ies), and, do not add - in addition - the categories of the city, state and country, too.
For further information on categories please read Commons:Categories for further help referring to an accurate categorisation, simplifying your further uploads and categorisation in general. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the commons:help desk.
Thank you for your assistance, Roland 23:36, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- Please stop categorizing on that way and assist your "commons fellows" by categorizing --> Category:Kolkata Book Fair <--
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Personality rights
[transferred to your user talk] Dear Roland, Recently you have added 'personality rights' tags on some of my self published works 'Indian Boy/Girl' photographs. Kindly note that those photographs have been taken at a public places in India, that I mentioned on the description of the respective photographs. I request, kindly advise me for this situation and for the future. Thanking you, with regards. Biswarup Ganguly. Biswarup Ganguly 12:42, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Dear Biswarup Ganguly, first let's say: i appreciate your images (categorisation could be "improved", see above ;-)) very much.
- The template {personality rights} imho should be used for images of living or recently deceased individuals, i.e. private people, (especiallty) children, women and men photographed at public places, streets, in their homes etc. That's why i added that template when i re-categorized your uploads referring to the category "Children of India" as Category:Girls of India respectively Category:Boys of India.
- For further information please see [Personality rights]. Best regards, Roland 13:26, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Your ~40 uploads on October 15, 2010, referring to (now established) Category:Simurali : Categorisation
Hi Gangulybiswarup, as mentioned before, please use useful categories, i.e. please do not categorize your uploads (an example of your recent activity):
- Category:Villages in India OR
- Category:Roads in India OR
- Category:Markets in India OR
- Category:Transport in India etc.
You'll help to save time and capacity on commons by categorizing:
- Category:Simurali (and for example Category:Trucks in India etc.)
Please use as far as possible the category of the regarding city/town/village or district (if there's no category, you may create one ;-)) etc., or, a localized better 'fitting' i.e. the 'most fitting"' category(ies). Do not add - in addition - the categories of the "parent category", among them cities, states and countries etc.
For further information on categories please read Commons:Categories referring to an accurate categorisation, simplifying your further uploads and categorisation in general. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the commons:help desk.
Thank you for your assistance, Roland 19:28, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
Dear Ronald, As I wanted to start a new sub-Category "Roads in Jharkhand" under Category:Jharkhand and uploaded two of my images, I think I did some mistake, I request your help. Regards. Biswarup Ganguly 11:24, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Biswarup Ganguly, congratulation: your first category :-) The problem has been easily fixed by handling Category:Roads in Jharkhand as subcategories of "[Category:Transport in Jharkhand]" respectively "[Category:Roads in India|Jharkhand]". Regards, Roland 15:35, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
- Dear Ronald, thank you for fixing the problem. May I have your attention please that, in the Category:Jharkhand there is '[+] Cities and villages in Jharkhand (5 C, 3 F)' but again under '[+] Geography of Jharkhand (4 C)' there is also '[+] Cities and villages in Jharkhand (5 C, 3 F)' appeared. Regards. Biswarup Ganguly 00:25, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
Dear Ronald, I must thank you as you frequently categories and re-categories properly of my uploaded files. May I have your attention please that, in the Category:Jharkhand there is '[+] Cities and villages in Jharkhand (5 C, 3 F)' but again under '[+] Geography of Jharkhand (4 C)' there is also '[+] Cities and villages in Jharkhand (5 C, 3 F)' appeared, whether it is normal or not? Again the capital bold 'C' is missing before it. Regards. Biswarup Ganguly 15:18, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
- Dear Roland, I am extremely sorry for misspelled your name! Regards.Biswarup Ganguly 16:22, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
- Dear Biswarup Ganguly, absolutely no problem (name and cities), and you're welcome. Referring to Category:Cities and villages in Jharkhand, imho there seems all to be "ok", i.e. usually "Cities and villages in StateXYZ" are categorized in that way: within the "main category" (of StateXYZ) in a "prominent" position (using [Category:StateXYZ|*] etc.) as well within "Geography of StateXYZ", and of course, within "Cities in CountryXYZ".
- If there's a single media, usually it will not be categorized in a municipality-related category, i.e. being categorized within "Cities and villages in StateXYZ".
- imho "several" (at least three or more, exceptions for Wikipedia-related articles are allowed!) media of the same municipality should be categorized in an "own" category that may be created easily, as p.e. Category:VillageXYZ being a sub-category of Category:Cities and villages in StateXYZ + Category:DistrictXYZ (p.e. within India) usually adding (at least) "interwikilinks" (if there are any) to the other Wikimedia projects as p.e. EN-WP, HI-WP and so on, and maybe a short description what kind of media are categoried there – please see p.e. Category:Rajarhat i created for your recent uploads.
- Categories imho do not have to be strictly 'logical', there are more benefits in categorizing in a way as "user-frindly" as possible. Further category-related questions you may place within Categorisation to discuss them more deeply as i usually prefer to ;-) Happy uploading of your images i like very much and do not hesitate to create categories as mentioned, sending my best regards, Roland 18:48, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
