Category:Lighthouse equipment

[edit]

Hello! I see you've made several categories similar to "Category:Sautter - Lighthouse equipment". Am I correct that these categories include equipment/locations using lighthouse equipment by a particular manufacturer? If so, Commons naming practice would be to name the category "Sautter-Harlé lighthouse equipment", with no spacing/hyphenation. If this was your intent, let me know and I'll rename the categories. Thanks! Huntster (t @ c) 17:24, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I named the sub-category because at the time there were 4 French suppliers of Fresnel lenses: Soleil bought by Sautter, Henry-Lepaute , and Barbier, Bénard and Turenne and these four companies equipped many lighthouses around the world, and some in collaboration with Gustave Eiffel’s company regarding metal headlights. Indeed, I tried to identify and associate the lighthouses concerned with the company of the supplier concerned. Please do for the best! thank you in advance for your cooperation. Sincerely, GOUPILLEAU J-Y (talk) 17:55, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I suggest you please rename the categories as follows:
Lighthouse equipment by Soleil
Lighthouse equipment by Sautter
Lighthouse equipment by Henry-Lepaute
Lighthouse equipment by Eiffel
Lighthouse equipment by Barbier, Bénard et Turenne
Lighthouse equipment by Auguste de Méritens
Lighthouse equipment by SDMO (Brest)
Thanks, Sincerely GOUPILLEAU J-Y (talk) 07:58, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Outstanding, thank you for the reply and the suggestions. I'll work on this later tonight. Huntster (t @ c) 22:01, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've collected them all in Category:Lighthouse equipment by manufacturer. Thanks again! Are you planning on working on other national suppliers, out of curiosity? Huntster (t @ c) 00:52, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Good morning, thank you very much for your amendments. As for your question, I am currently working on the metal lighthouses, and specifically those built by Gustave Eiffel, for which there is relatively little documentation. However, I have added in the new category: the English company Chance Brothers. Thank you again for your collaboration. Very cordially GOUPILLEAU J-Y (talk) 14:27, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Category discussion warning

Puddle iron has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Hello, first of all thank you for your message. I created this category initially for small metal lighthouses manufactured by Gustave Eiffel (there are only 5 copies left in France and one in Portugal). Having extended my research to constructions (Eiffel Tower) and bridges (there are 3 copies left in France), I also saw that we spoke of "malleable iron", the name of the category might be to review ? How to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category

[edit]

When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with {{SD|C2}} if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available or {{SD|C1}} if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused. In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page, as you did at Category:Puddle iron in architecture. ("C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion). Nom de gare

[edit]

Bonjour,

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 14:20, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Autrefois, le T.I.V.
Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 17:07, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Bien cordialement GOUPILLEAU J-Y (talk) 17:13, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
