Image Tagging Image:IXcorpsbadge4.png
Thanks for uploading Image:IXcorpsbadge4.png. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}}to release it under the GFDL or{{PD-self}}to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Behaviour: warning
I am writing this to both you, Evrik, and Jiang. We at the Commons are NOT interested in having a giant war about any images. All we are interested in is determining the correct copyright status of these images. Do not remove deletion tags: an admin or someone neutral can do that after the discussion has closed. No personal comments - stick to the copyright issue. If I see any behaviour from either of you that is not focused solely on the copyright issue, regarding these images and each other, I will have no hesitation in blocking you. Have a nice day. pfctdayelise (translate?) 01:03, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I am not interested in having a giant war about any images. If you can find an admin here who is, then good luck to you. The dispute should have been here in the first place, since this is where the images are. You can't "lose" a debate about copyright. You either have demonstratable evidence to support your stance or you don't. Please stop making any comment whatsoever about Jiang. Focus your comments on the images. Regards, pfctdayelise (translate?) 01:35, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
- It's not about winning! It's about maintaining the integrity of the Commons and the Wikipedia as harbours of truly free content. As I said, please just avoid mentioning Jiang, let's focus on the copyright issues. It's good that you are contacting the Library of Congress. The images are not going to be deleted tomorrow, don't worry. Please report back what they say or offer in writing. I trust you are big enough to report back even if they end up saying they're not public domain. Regards, pfctdayelise (translate?) 01:46, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
Library of Congress
When are you going to talk to them? pfctdayelise (translate?) 11:23, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- I was away from a computer most of the week. I did send a letter to the Librarian of Congress, the White House curator and to the National Archivist asking for clarification. I'll have more time next week to respond more fully. --Evrik 22:37, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Hi, I have listed this on Commons:Deletion requests as fair use isn't permitted on Commons. Feel free to comment there. Cheers, JYolkowski 23:58, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- oops. --Evrik 14:49, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
A photo of mine
This is a first for me. A photo of mine was used by the local paper Image:Marksscoutcenter.png. Thye used my name, should they have contacted me? --Evrik 15:14, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- No. None of the Creative Commons licenses we allow (in fact, no licenses we allow) require that they contact you. Since they are a newspaper they are very likely using it under fair use guidelines, regardless of the license, anyway. pfctdayelise (translate?) 05:28, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Request a Commentary
Would someone mind commenting on the two versions of this photo Image:Woodlands mansion.png? --Evrik 17:35, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- I rather like the old one more. But for image feedback I suggest you try Commons:Quality Images. pfctdayelise (translate?) 05:28, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Moving stuff to the commons
How can I load the following images to the commons:
- Use the CommonsHelper tool which will help you copy the information across easily. (You will still have to save the images locally and hit 'browse' to find them to upload, though.) Also please have the licenses verified before uploading here. Don't just trust that the information is correct, and they're free. pfctdayelise (translate?) 05:28, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
--Evrik 17:35, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- What a great tool! --Evrik 20:56, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Copyright question
If a professional artist drew a picture of me, but the image is mine, and I scanned it. It's my picture - and I want wikipedia to be able to use it ... but want to limit anyone else using it without my approval ... how do I tag that? --Evrik 20:44, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- You can't do that. All Commons licenses allow anyone to use any picture for any purpose, more or less. "Request" or "notication only" permissions are not "free enough" here.
- BTW we have a Commons:Help desk where you are welcome to ask questions. pfctdayelise (translate?) 05:28, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, one more question. If the artist drew the picture, and I paid them for it ... what do i need to post the image on the commons? --Evrik
- If you paid them for the copy, or even the original, that still doesn't mean you own the copyright unless they specifically transferred all copyrights to you. And you would want some written notice to that effect. Think about it: the copyrights of art are not transferred to whoever happens to own them at some time. pfctdayelise (translate?) 12:31, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, possibly I am wrong about this. You should read one of the current discussions at the COM:VP#Caricature_ordered_by_the_user (from the bottom). pfctdayelise (translate?) 07:31, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'll monitor this. --Evrik 14:27, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and or licensing of this particular file. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. --question on noncommercial licensing
Hey Evrik,
I was uploading an image of mine, and when looking for my CC license it couldn't be found. Instead I found this: Template talk:Noncommercial. I want to upload this image, rt_309 with this license. Not kosher? I'm lost.

I've deleted the image. In the future, if such things happen please use the tag {{bad name|Image:filname.jpg}}. That makes it easier for admins to confirm that it can be deleted. Cnyborg 14:11, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
I've moved the above to your user namespace at User:Evrik/John Bosco. Please note that, being an article, this is entirely inappropriate for Wikimedia Commons. Cary "Bastiq▼e" Bass demandez 19:26, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for giving me the link to that litter debate that you started. Apology accepted. --Descendall 22:12, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Image of San Giuseppe Cafasso
It has just occurred to me that the image, complete with halo, is quite clearly a picture of a saint. As he wasn’t canonized until 1947 that seems to amount to very strong evidence that the image was made less than 50 years ago. What do you think? —Ian Spackman 22:38, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- Find a {{PD}} image and I don't care what happens to that image. --Evrik 01:18, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
