Thanks
[edit]Hi! Just a quick note to say thank you for correcting my image description of the Daffodils and Hyacinths outside Whitwell Church that I had uploaded the other day. I have now moved the file so it shows the correct title, here. Personally I'm pretty useless when it comes to plant or flower names (I only know the basics) so any help is appreciated. :) Editor5807speak 23:14, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
Hi Erutuon, sorry, but this file cannot be deleted as it is in use on 3 projects. Besides, I don't really understand your rationale "since uploader is not allowing me to upload a new version longer than 2.2 seconds". Per definition, you are the uploader. So, you probably meant, that there is a problem during the upload-process. Please try to upload the preferred longer version under a slightly different filename (such as File:En-us-high school-long.ogg or alike). --Túrelio (talk) 07:52, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Túrelio: Let me clarify: I am the sole author and created the file for use in w:en:Canadian raising. By uploader, I mean the Wikimedia uploading software. I attempted to upload an improved version of the soundfile, but the software truncated the soundfile to 2.2 seconds. Hence, I want the file deleted so that I can upload a new version. I see that Wikimedia policy does not allow speedy deletion if a file is used. Frustrating, but understandable.
- In any case, the file is not appropriate for Wiktionary, and either a new version must be uploaded or it must be deleted; but I suppose I have to request deletion and have it approved. Erutuon (talk) 08:39, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
- Why not simply upload the preferred longer version under a new filename? When this has successfully happened, we can just overwrite the old file by the new file. The advantage of this path is, that it would not break the current use-links. --Túrelio (talk) 09:11, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
- I've succeeded in uploading a new version of File:En-us-high school.ogg, one appropriate for the Wiktionary entries on high school (truncation wasn't a problem, since the audio file was shorter), and uploaded the file for Canadian raising to File:En-us-highschool, high school.ogg. So, the problem is resolved without any deletion or moving. Erutuon (talk) 09:52, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
- Great. --Túrelio (talk) 10:09, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
