Project scope / Categories

[edit]

Hi Erick Duque (EDKH), please respect that Commons has a project scope and that contributed images must be realistically useful for an educational purpose. For this reason please give useful categories and useful descriptions to your images. So that every other user can find your images through their categories and can understand what you want to teach with the images through their descriptions. To meet the project scope please keep everything as educational as possible. Keep in mind that most people in the world do not know what is visible in your images and therefore urgently require understandable descriptions and categories made by you! Particularly read and respect categories to avoid more mistakes! -- Ies (talk) 06:41, 31 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Earth 2015

[edit]

Hi Erick Duque (EDKH), please don't misuse the Wiki Loves Earth competition. Most if not all images you uploaded have nothing to do with Wiki Loves Earth. Urgently read the rules: Commons:Wiki Loves Earth 2015. -- Ies (talk) 06:47, 31 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion

[edit]
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

And also:

Hi Erick! I'm sorry you seem to have had a negative experience with Commons and want your files to be deleted. I see that your deletion requests were rejected, but I believe we should respect your wishes, and I believe our policies say we should, so I've nominated them for deletion again. I hope that you might reconsider, but I understand if you don't. LX (talk, contribs) 09:34, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi LX, thank you for trying to help me. In fact you are right. I think the way they (wiki loves earth & lis) replied to me was totally unfriendly and negligible. I've found it very hard to use this website... I don't even understand how to reply to someone and I don't want to understand this site interface because I sincerely, after all that happened, I can say that it SUCKS so bad.
Also, I think that is AN ABSURD to have all the individual files deletion requests refused once there are MY PROPERTY, and EVEN, it is under ALL RIGHTS RESERVED on my Flickr account, where it was originally posted.
I didn't understand how wiki loves earth worked... for me it was about sending beautiful landscapes of Brazil, I didn't know it had to be for educational purposes once I've saw an advertising on facebook saying that it was a photographic competition.
Anyway, it doesn't matter at all.
I am terribly unsatisfied and disappointed with this website and this non-respectful users for their replies and their actions against my authority.
I appreciate, once again, your time for trying to help me deleting my photos, once they belong to me and I don't want them to be used for free on this hard-to-understand-user-interface-website.
Sincerely,
ERICK DUQUE — Preceding unsigned comment added by Erick Duque (EDKH) (talk • contribs) 07:42, 15 June 2015‎ (UTC)[reply]
Hi again Erick, and thanks for your words of appreciation and for the feedback on your experience here!
I'm sure Ies didn't mean to discourage you from contributing to the site altogether, but I can understand your reaction if that's the kind of response you get within two minutes of your first uploads. It's important to remember that everyone contributing to this site (you, me, Ies and everyone else) is a volunteer and a human being. Sometimes we have a bad day, and sometimes what's intended as constructive criticism can come off as a bit grumpy. For most of us, English is not our first language, and that can of course also affect how well we express ourselves (especially on a bad day).
I also want to point out that the Wiki Loves Earth 2015 in Brazil competition is only a very small part of the activity that goes on here at Wikimedia Commons. We host more than 26 million media files (photos, video, audio etc.) that can be used by anyone for any purpose. We do have a focus on content that can be used for educational purposes, but our definition of that is quite broad. The Wiki Loves Earth 2015 in Brazil has a much more narrow scope; it's only for photos of national parks in Brazil. I can't say whether the photos you uploaded were within the scope of that particular campaign, but I would say that they were within the general educational project scope of this site (or at least they would have been with improved descriptions and categories).
I see that the photos have now been deleted. Again, I'm sorry to see them gone, but I understand. If you do decide to give the site another chance at some point, it might be a good idea to upload a smaller number of files and ask for feedback at Commons:Help desk before proceeding.
