Welcome

[edit]

Your photographs of birds are very good. I look forward to seeing more. It would be even more helpful if you could add where each photograph was taken in the image description. It is often better to use the binomial name of animals, because they can be more easily used on different language wikis. Please make the name of the image as somewhat descriptive, or add a number at the end of the file name, especially where there is a already a photograph with the same species name. I often used the binominal name followed by where it was taken and then a number, and usually this will give each file a unique name. Snowmanradio (talk) 14:15, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Snow, good suggestions. Dougjj (talk) 08:45, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Parrot photographs

[edit]

Thank you for uploading parrot photographs. Please check the identities of [1] and [2] in your gallery; I think the first one is a Derbyan Parakeet and the second one a cultivated lovebird - please recheck. As with others, your photographs of Palm Cockatoo, Maroon-fronted Parrot, and Blue-streaked Lorikeet are much better than the ones we have on the wiki. Snowmanradio (talk) 23:26, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll check the IDs when I'm home at the end of the week, I'll also upload the photos you mentioned to Commons Dougjj (talk) 11:53, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Used same name twice

[edit]

"File:Citron-crested Cockatoo.jpg" was used twice by yourself and two different photographs were uploaded with the same name, and now only one image is shown. To fix this suggest: upload them both again with different names and but a bad name template on the original file. Snowmanradio (talk) 23:52, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for the errors, I'll upload with different file names in a few days Dougjj (talk) 11:53, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You do not need to make a deletion request if the deletion reason is bad name or duplicate. It was also not added on Commons:Deletion requests. I have deleted Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Tauraco_hartlaubi_-_20081223_.jpg and the image will be deleted to. --MGA73 (talk) 17:35, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Add the following to the file that need to be deleted: The format is:

  • For a file of your own with a bad name add: {{bad name|name of file.jpg}}
  • For someone else's file add {{duplicate|name of file.jpg}}
  • The deletion request that you have been making is for a doubtful image and people give opinions on it, and the best reasons and taken for keeping or deleting the file. Snowmanradio (talk) 12:59, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I believe what happened was I first uploaded a Sulfur-crested Cockatoo, but called it a Citron-crested Cockatoo. Realizing the error, I then replaced the incorrect image with that of a Citron-crested Cockatoo by using the "Upload a new version of this file" option. The current photo should be correct, is there an action I need to take on my part? Dougjj (talk) 16:10, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Caracara photos

[edit]

Hi Dougjj - I put them under Polyborus as that's the generic name currently used on Commons - better to have the pics findable under an old name, than 'lost' in a category that doesn't exist yet at Commons. It'll be easy to change all of them at once with the CommonsDelinker, I've got it tagged on my list of 'things to do'. Hope this helps! - MPF (talk) 16:40, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MPF, OK I see the issue. There have apparently been some changes to the species in genus caracara and it seems we're out of sync. I suppose we should leave this as is on Commons for the time being and keep the images in en:wiki assigned to the appropriate species. I will edit both images and add back in the locations for the birds. Thanks. - Dougjj (talk) 17:16, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jurong

[edit]

Hi, has Jurong Bird Park, changed its name? When I checked today, I found that the three words are used on the official website for the bird park. I recall checking this some time ago when there was two words. Snowmanradio (talk) 15:07, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have been using the spelling "Jurong Bird Park" recently. Snowmanradio (talk) 14:23, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Parakeet

[edit]

Hi, I have been looking at this photograph. It is a good photograph of the parrot from the side, but to me it is not easy to identify, because its front is not seen well. It looks like its chest is pinkish and there is green below that. I think that the Debyan Parakeet should be more even grey than that with grey extending lower down its front. It might help to know where the photograph was taken. If you have any other photographs of it that show its front better, even, if they are not so good resolution, they might help to confirm the birds identity. I have asked for opinions on the birds identity on the bird talk page (see bird 466). Snowmanradio (talk) 14:21, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a location for where this photo was taken, please? - Thanks! MPF (talk) 12:35, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I presume wild, or are they free-flying captive? - MPF (talk) 14:12, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
