Recent changes
- The explanation of the abbreviations on the recent changes page could overlap with the list of changes. This has been fixed. [1][2]
- You can now see statistics for pageviews per wiki per country. You can see this on maps or in a table. [3]
Problems
- Linter is reporting estimated counts instead of actual counts for some wikis. This is because of performance problems. You might notice a false higher number in linter counts for some categories. This will be fixed as soon as the performance problem has been fixed. [4]
- Last week the way that Visual Editor displays references lists was changed. As a result, the references generated by specific templates like
{{sfn}}
are not visible in the references list whilst editing. [5][6]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 20 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 21 February. It will be on all wikis from 22 February (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 20 February at 19:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 21 February at 16:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The way edit summaries and log comments are stored in the database is being changed. In the future this will make longer comments possible. [7]
- Edit conflicts could be solved in a different way in the future. You can test a new prototype.

Question for you
Sin Chao!
I wanted to ask if you can translate "village in China" and "village in Indonesia". I wanted to update Wikidata. Thanks in advance.Artix Kreiger (talk) 21:38, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Artix Kreiger: "Ngôi làng ở Trung Quốc" (or Trung Hoa, I prefer Trung Hoa), modern Vietnamese people write Indonesia as "Indonesia" so that should be easy. Also It's "Xin chào". Happy new year, by the way. --Donald Trung (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 00:52, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- XD. I tried (i'm from China). So its Ngôi làng ở Indonesia? Also, Happy New Year <3 Artix Kreiger (talk) 00:56, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Artix Kreiger: Well, if you would go over to my contributions to Chinese Wikipedia one could see that I also am not sufficient in your language, but yeah, that would be a rather accurate translation. Enjoy adding those tags. --Donald Trung (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 07:57, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
Your sig
Do you think you could just have a normal short sig that links to your user page and talk page? Link to trolling, wiki projects and articles and stuff via your user page. Don't clutter up forum conversions with your personal issues/adverts/contributions. People will also tend to take you more seriously if your sig was less childish. -- Colin (talk) 14:45, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
@Colin: A link to a list of articles I've created is not "trolling" nor is it an advertisement, links to WikiProjects are often used in "sigs", and what personal issues does my signature link 🔗 to? I've had this signature or one similar to it for several months and no-one has made any negative comments about it prior to my block on Meta so don't import drama. --Donald Trung (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 15:08, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- Donald, I am indifferent to this signature, but you should assume Colin’s good faith (he has, since my experience, a decent supply of it), and please do not mimic detestable Slowking4’s style of “argumentation”. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 15:15, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- Your sig recently had a "link to trolling", which is a "personal issue". Now you advertise a wikiproject and link to articles on Wikipedia that I assume you have contributed to. I don't see that as a routine practice on Commons -- it is not a purpose of your sig to act as an advert for either a wikiproject or boast of your activity on other MediaWiki projects. It is simply how people identify you and get in touch with you. By all means litter your user page with such stuff, but I don't want to have to read it nor wade through a screen width of wikitext every time you are part of a discussion. Have a look at the sigs of the most respected people here. They don't shout "look at me!". -- Colin (talk) 15:22, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Colin: my signature doesn't scream "look at me", and a link 🔗 to articles isn't disruptive, as for WikiProjects it's commonplace on other wiki's for people to link to WikiProjects and why shouldn't WikiProjects be advertised to? WikiProjects on Wikimedia Commons don't have that much traction so what is wrong with linking to it? As I mostly upload works related to the articles I write ✍🏻 that seems relevant to Wikimedia Commons. And why is Slowking4's signature acceptable but not mine? --Donald Trung (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 15:39, 23 February 2018 (UTC)

And speaking of "childish" "sigs" (since no-one here uses the full word "signature") Koavf's (Justin Knapp's) is almost entirely made out of emoji's, yet not a single person complained about it and he's one of the most respected users here. --Donald Trung (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 15:41, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- Donald, I think your emoji signature is fine. There is no need to change them, irregardless of other's preference. That is just being pettey. Artix Kreiger (talk) 15:50, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you, but it's still about the link to a WikiProject and a list of articles, I don't want anyone to be annoyed by my signature either, I prefer to let curious people click through numismatic subjects and then either read about them (articles) or join the WikiProject Numismatics as WikiProjects on Wikimedia Commons aren't exactly very active. --Donald Trung (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 16:02, 23 February 2018 (UTC)

File:Toda No. 85 景興通寶 Nominate.gif has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Recent changes
- Checkusers and stewards can now view private data such as the IP address in the abuse log. This data is removed regularly. [8]
Problems
- Last week's MediaWiki version was rolled back because of a bug. [9][10]
- Since the deployment train last week until late evening on 20 February UTC, when you thanked someone for an edit, the thank went to the latest unthanked edit to that page. It didn't matter which edit you tried to give thanks for. This has been fixed. [11]
- Special:Statistics did not take newly created pages into account since 13 February 2018. Because of this the statistics are recreated. [12][13][14]
Changes later this week
- Users with version 10 of the Internet Explorer browser will no longer get JavaScript on Wikimedia wikis. If you use this browser on your computer, you can try upgrading to a newer version. [15]
- The Wikinews wikis will switch to use the Remex parsing library. This is to replace Tidy. It will happen on 27 February. Other wikis will be recommended to switch soon when they have fixed the errors that must be fixed. Tidy will be removed in the middle of 2018. [16][17]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 27 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 28 February. It will be on all wikis from 1 March (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 27 February at 19:30 (UTC). See how to join.

Meta Archive
do you want me to archive your talk page there? Artix Kreiger (talk) 23:26, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Artix Kreiger: , it's not allowed for blocked people to have conversations about their blocks to be archived, you could try, but it will get reverted. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 00:40, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
What about the mailing lists? Do you want me to alter the subscriptions so you don’t get them there? Artix Kreiger (talk) 01:03, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Artix Kreiger: I still plan on appealing my block, but in due time. Mostly because I want to get Autopatrolled here on Wikimedia Commons to later become a file 📁 mover, but also to participate in the 2018 Community wish list survey, Etc. Though I'm pretty sure that if I'll appeal it on such a short notice that they'll revoke my talk page access ♿ so I will have to wait some time. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 03:00, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
- How about this? I'll remove the wikidata subscriptions on your meta talk page and nominate you for the autopatrolled right. Artix Kreiger (talk) 03:05, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Artix Kreiger: Otherwise my Meta subscriptions could be moved to "User talk:Donald Trung/Subscriptions" and I don't think that I'll be granted any rights while I'm blocked on another project, but you can try. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 03:06, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

Autopatrol given
Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. -- ~riley (talk) 07:41, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

Art-Hanoi's Sema to confirm he's Pyvanet~commonswiki
On March 1st, 2018 my request ro Sema from Art-Hanoi.com to confirm that he's the former Wikimedia Commons user Pyvanet~commonswiki was met with a positive response and he replied with "Confirmation of receipt: [Ticket#: 2018030110001396]", I am posting this here 🈁 purely for record keeping, and to make my off-wiki activity related to Wikimedia Commons open 👐🏻 to scrutiny. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 04:06, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

Art-Hanoi images
Hi! Have you uploaded files from Art-Hanoi on Commons? I was able only to find (deleted) files on the English Wikipedia. --Ruthven (msg) 20:55, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Ruthven: I only uploaded PD-scans from Art-Hanoi.com, but the owner (w:en:User:Pyvanet) uploaded several here which were transwiki'd like File:Tien.jpg that were deleted for having missing permissions. I will only start uploading copyrighted images from Art-Hanoi after I know Sema understands how to give proper permission through the OTRS. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 00:36, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
Sema told me that he received some legal questions that be didn't understand, maybe point him towards the creative commons licenses and explain to him how others must attribute his work, I think that his most preferred license would be 4.0 so please explain what that would entail for him and his work. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 00:43, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, but where are the files? If there are no file, it's useless to talk about licenses. --Ruthven (msg) 08:43, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Ruthven: w:en:User talk:Pyvanet should probably contain the files 📁 that were transwiki'd to Wikimedia Commons, and the aforementioned File:Tien.jpg (or try this) is one of the files, there aren't that many as he quit because some images got deleted. I will try to look for more but as I have a lot of real life responsibilities that are nore urgent I can't promise that I'll be swift. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 12:41, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
List 📃
Any deleted coin and/or banknote from before 1968, I will gradually make this list.
- File:South Vietnam 500 Dong 1966.jpg (transwiki'd to Wikimedia Commons)
- File:Tien.jpg (transwiki'd to Wikimedia Commons)
- File:South Vietnam 1 Dong 1955.jpg
- File:South Vietnam 1 Dong 1966.jpg
- File:North vietnam dong 1947.jpg
- File:North vietnam dong 1946.jpg
- File:North vn 100 dong 1946 f.jpg
- File:North vn 100 dong 1946 b.jpg
(note 📝: So far this is all I could find, not sure if they can be restored to Wikimedia Commons if they were from theEnglish Aikiproda. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 12:49, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
--Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 12:43, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you. There is no rush for this. I undeleted File:Tien.jpg; can you please categorise it? For the other currencies, it seems that they are not free; see Commons:Currency#Vietnam. We thus have to check case by case if the copyright of the engraver/author has ceased. I don't think so, but if you have further information, I will be happy to undelete the files. --Ruthven (msg) 19:59, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- I also checked files uploaded by Pyvanet~commonswiki: the deleted ones are only recent bills. Maybe it would be a good idea to create a category "Media provided by Art Hanoi"… Meanwhile I added the OTRS ticket to other coins photographed by Sema. --Ruthven (msg) 20:22, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Ruthven: I thought 💭 that all Vietnamese currency from before 1968 is free (as the copyright © expires after 50 years), at least that is what is said at Category:Coins of Vietnam. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 01:23, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
