You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Low-res submissions to Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 in Russia

	Thank you for your participation in Wiki Loves Monuments 2023! Unfortunately, one or several of your pictures violate the contest rule about minimum size wich is 2 Megapixel. Please, check them in the low-res category and reupload bigger version through «upload new version» option near the bottom of the page if you have one. File size cannot be directly related to image resolution. This is especially true for JPEG files, the size of which depends on the content of the image. If the image contains many small contrasting details, the file will be large, but if the image is dominated by smooth color transitions or areas with uniform shading, then the file size may be significantly smaller. All my photos are obtained by downsizing to 1600 pixels on the long side from high-quality originals, so referring to the small file size in bytes is incorrect. I can make the files huge if I want, but this will not affect the image resolution in any way. But why?

Размер файла нельзя непосредственно соотносить с разрешением изображения. Особенно это относится к файлам JPEG, размер которых зависит от характера изображения. Если изображение содержит множество мелких контрастных деталей, файл будет большого размера, если же на изображении преобладают плавные цветовые переходы или области с равномерной заливкой, то размер файла может быть существенно меньше. Все мои фотографии получены путем уменьшения до 1600 пикселов по длинной стороне из высококачественных оригиналов, поэтому ссылаться на маленький размер файлов в байтах - некорректно. Претензии не к размеру файлов, а именно к разрешению. Для участия в конкурсе фотографии должны иметь разрешение больше 2 мегапикселей. Avsolov (talk) 17:10, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Пожалуйста, укажите точные минимальные размеры изображения по горизонтали и вертикали в пикселах. Абстрактное разрешение в мегапикселах без указания пропорций ни о чем не говорит. Например, 3072x540 - это тоже 2 МП. DimmitriUS (talk) 15:52, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Я дал вам ссылку на правила конкурса. Я не член жюри, просто мимо проходил (волонтёр). Я не могу предложить вам каких-то интерпретаций правил, отличающихся от того, что там написано:

"...загружайте [фотографию] в максимальном разрешении, которое обеспечивает ваша камера..."

"...жюри оставляет за собой право вообще не рассматривать фотографии с разрешением менее 2 МП..."

Как видите, о размерах изображения по горизонтали и вертикали речь не идёт. Если какой-то объект укаладывается в 3072х652 (всё же 3072х540 — это 1.7 МП), значит, его можно иллюстрировать такой фотографией. Но я бы не советовал вам ориентироваться на самый нижний предел разрешения. Возьмите с запасом, хотя бы 6 МП. Avsolov (talk) 19:09, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Благодарю за ответ. В общем, как я понимаю, здесь полная неорганизованность, что косвенно свидетельствует о несерьезной организации конкурса, а, значит, и о сомнительности его целей. Выкладывать фотографии разрешением 6 МП считаю излишним, и уж тем более - в максимальном разрешении, которое обеспечивает камера. Альтруизм - штука хорошая, но только если он адресный, а не в пользу неизвестно кого. Кстати, размер 3072x540 я указал не случайно, потому что его "маркетинговое" название - как раз 2 МП.
