Pay attention to copyright
File:CD front.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Hi LX,

I'm new to Wikipedia, still learning this stuff - but boy are you guys making it hard... So I was not allowed to use the bands logo first uploaded, even if it's the signature logo for the band about which the article is about (although I read somewhere that it would be fine). Then also read in one of the many help/editorial tutorial pages (I've been reading quite a few, so I'm not gonna be able to provide you with the link) that it would be ok to use an album cover without needing a license from the author (lots of contradicting info in those help files as well).

This is just so confusing... Denniz81 (talk) 03:04, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I can promise you that no tutorial on Commons claims that it's okay to upload copyrighted content without a license from the copyright holder. Perhaps you read something like en:Wikipedia:Non-free content over at the English Wikipedia project, which is a separate project from Commons. Please read Commons:Fair use to understand why the rules of English Wikipedia and Commons differ on this matter.
If you still think Commons is confusing, I recommend reading Commons:Project scope/Summary, which explains what this project is about. LX (talk, contribs) 09:25, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

@LX - ok thx, (I'm sure I read it at Wikipedia, guess I thought the same applied to commons).

I see there's no way getting past the license then. The author sent the license per e-mail yesterday - will you be able to reinstate the image or do I need to upload it again?

Thanks for your feedback and assistance, Denniz81 (talk) 23:01, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If the permission was mailed in to Commons' permission archive according to the instructions at Commons:OTRS, then you do not need to do anything. The file will be restored once the permission is processed. You should not recreate previously deleted content yourself. Unfortunately, the backlog for processing e-mail permissions is currently about 90 days, so you'll need to be patient. LX (talk, contribs) 08:18, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

90 days? wow... Denniz81 (talk) 17:08, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I know. It's pretty bad, but it's a limited number of volunteers that do the work, and they process all e-mails in the order they arrive. LX (talk, contribs) 11:50, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
