Thank you for creating a graphic for the different brick sizes over the world. One correction that needs to be made is changing the word "nominal" to "actual" since that is what is shown in the associated table. Nominal is the actual size of brick plus a mortar joint thickness. The table lists actual sizes. Requesting help to fix SVG

Hi there, it's been a while. Since it's election season in Malaysia, I've emerged from the proverbial cave to upload another SVG related to the topic. However, the text doesn't look quite as well as this one. Have they changed the SVG rendering, or have I left out something in the stylesheet or XML namespace?

Also, I'm sure some parts of my SVG code are redundant, such as reusing colours. I couldn't think of an elegant way to do it without breaking the neat format you have introduced. Can you help on this? Thanks a bunch! Hytar (talk) 07:44, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Hytar, thanks for updating the graphic – good work! I've updated the file after

1. Moving the class to the top of the stylesheet – there's a small chance that the stylesheet has a bug before the word class preventing the class from being parsed and the text reverting to the default style (I don't see any bugs when eyeballing it,
2. Turning style tags with colours into classes, and
3. Aligning columns of numbers etc

I've no idea why the font looks different even though both SVG specify 14px normal Bitstream Vera Sans, thought I've previously encountered Wikimedia thumbnails being broken, often because the XML header was incorrect (it's fine in this case) or the renderer had temporary issues. The latter often cleared up after a few days, so it might be worth clearing the cache and rerendering it by adding ?action=purge at the end of the URL.

As a side note, I normally specify "Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif" instead of Bitstream Vera Sans as I think it's more likely that users have these fonts, should they wish to view the SVG on their browser.

P.S. I find the colours (especially the faded versions) of PKR, Warisan and Independent, and DAP and PPBM hard to distinguish. Not knowing Malaysian politics well, I cannot recommend alternative colours, but how about increasing their colour saturation, or adding subtle versions of their symbols in the hexagons?

Thank you for your fixes! I have uploaded another version after changing the colours a little. At first I'm basing all colours on this template, but the faded colours (under "/shading" in templates) are more suited as background for text, and seemed too bright for map use. Hence I stuck with the previous colour template from 2008 and adjusted from there. I might tweak them some more to find the "best" palette, but for now I'll put the image into this article.

As for the text, I removed other properties deemed extraneous and used "sans-serif" as font. They are readable even though they look a little off, so I'll give it a pass. Hytar (talk) 18:14, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

Thanks, Hytar. That's clearer. I'd prefer to specify a widely-available font, though. Otherwise, people who have a very different-looking font assigned as sans-serif will see it garbled. I think Helvetica,Arial is a good choice for wide support and acceptance, and neutral appearance.

I prefer it to be lower case "general election" following the convention on Wikipedia article titles. That means I need to change the 2013 file, which I try not to; but you can change it if you want, including your suggested font change.

Eventually I'll touch the parliament "changes" file and will take your suggestion into account. In the meantime, I need to work on three files:

• State assembly/DUN changes file — more work due to increased Sarawak seats in 2016.
• Base SVG for 2018 parliamentary election — easier because seat number is retained, only name changes and additional parties required.
• Base SVG for 2018 state assembly elections — "changes" file in item 1 plus increased Sabah seats.

You have changed File:Bayes theorem visualisation.svg so that a description update in articles is required, but the description have been updated in one article only, and in enwiki only.

If you make such changes to an image that require description update, please remember to update descriptions in all articles that use the image, in all languages. Or create a separate new image and replace the old one in an article(s) you want to update.

µ symbol not png-ified in Comparison_CD_DVD_HDDVD_BD.svg

Hi, just a quick note to say the µ symbol used in File:Comparison_CD_DVD_HDDVD_BD.svg doesn't appear to show up when mediawiki converts the SVG into a PNG. I don't know how easy it would be to get that fixed? Mike1024 (t/c) 18:16, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

Very impressed with images

I am curious about their creation. I read you've used Python in the past. Do you have any additional information, or some code of how you went about it? I've been interested in delving into a similar project myself. The possibility of controlling a complex visualization programmatically seems like it opens up many interesting doors. I was particularly impressed by the visualization of the binomial theorem (up to the 4th power). I'm well versed in software and Python, so please feel free to be as technical as necessary. Thank you for your kind words, ‪Rmiguez0‬. My Python code comprises standalone scripts which output SVG files with the Python code embedded. I wrote short articles on my almost-polyglot SVG-generating Python code and improved its handling of format strings on my Wikipedia user page.

I've since split the generated SVG into two parts: definitions and the main body. If you'd like to see an example, download https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2a/Plato_number.svg and look at its contents. Does the above help answer your question? Perhaps I'm wrong but the shape of the "solar system escape velocity" chart in blue looks wrong to me.

I tried to make a version in Excel and it looks quite different (I'm afraid I can;t manage to upload it). My chart is based on the escape velocity changing as one over the square root of the distance from the sun. I wonder if you have used some other formula?

As I replied, since the data was taken from the graph at the NASA site, I am rather reluctant to change it without further evidence from an equally or more reliable source.
