• Hi Arion. I think this picture is better than the other one in some ways and worse in others. It's a little bit sharper and more centered but the light is not as good, you're missing the blue sky from the other picture, and I also preferred the more vertical framing of the other picture because a big part of what makes this a good motif is the long sight-lines with the swirly patterns, so you want as much of them in the frame as possible to lead your eye - a squarer crop makes it less striking. In general, I think you're going to struggle at FPC with an iPhone and would recommend that you invest in a proper camera if you want to submit lots of your own work to FPC. It doesn't necessarily have to be an expensive camera, just a good one. W.Carter had loads of FPs with a fairly basic compact camera and they were really good. But an iPhone doesn't really give you the quality and flexiblity of options you need. Cmao20 (talk) 19:15, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

Church of Saint Augustin

Hello! I saw your comment on QIC and uploaded a new version of File:Iglesia de San Agustín, París, Francia, 2022-10-31, DD 120-122 HDR.jpg. I improved the curves, the perspective and the sharpness. To be honest, I would have never thought of this image as a FP but after you mentioned it, I see indeed potential. If you believe that there is some room of improvement, please, let me know. • Yeah, it'll be an unusual nomination and idk if it'll succeed but I like this photo a lot and I think it is worth a shot. It's the repeated archway motif, with the arches of the stained glass windows and the arches of the church walls all containing a different view inside them - that juxtaposition of regularity with diversity is really cool. It reminds me of one of those old-fashioned advent calendars in which every door conceals a different picture. The only improvement I can see is what may be a slight misalignment of the HDR frames on the noticeboard at the bottom centre that has seemingly caused something akin to a stitching error. Hello! I saw your notes hidden in the page (but couldn't see them actually). I fixed the blue color bleeding (you mentioned this in a note) but I'm not sure about the misalignment. Ponds question

Dear Cmao20,

Laitche has recently nominated two photos from ponds in Japanese landscape gardens as FPs, and somehow they remind me a bit of these photos by me:

Of course the place is far less beautiful than Japanes gardens, but somehow I like these shots, especially the two late-autumn photos. But maybe I am just biased here. • Hi Aristeas, great photos! I agree with you that the late-autumn photos are personally my favourites, but somehow I think the spring ones might actually do better at FPC. I wonder if the grey skies in the autumn ones might invite some 'low wow' opposes. Personally I think the pleasure of those ones is in the colours and the remarkably crisp reflections, but others may be less impressed.

Overall I think one from each season is worth nominating. Out of the late autumn photos I prefer 1 because I find the composition more balanced - the other one is still good but feels a tiny bit monotonous by comparison. Also the reflection is clearer because the water is calmer. Out of the spring photos, 1 is probably the mildly better composition and may be the safest bet at FPC, but 2 has more interesting light and also has the swan, which is really cool. FP-pictures with Aromia moschata?

Hi @Cmao20, In order to learn more about the selection of Featured Pictures, I have gone through galleries with "Cerambycidae (Longhorned Beetles)", hoping to find FP's featuring shimmering greenish Aromia moschata, with a colour that changes with the angle of view, but without success. I wonder if you could help me to find out if there is any such beetle among the Featured Pictures?

"My beetle" is among the candidates now. I have answered your question about the size of the beetle. I have also completed the description/info about the picture.

Another question, if my picture does not have at least two votes after five days, would you recommend that I withdraw the nomination, i.e. is withdrawal be the normal practice if a picture has not got at least two votes within five days?

• Hi Simiha, I've checked the category and there are no existing FPs of this species. However, as much as I've tried, I struggle to get beyond a neutral vote for your picture. I think the composition is great and I would definitely submit it for QI, and for VI as the best image of the species on Commons, but I just don't think it's sharp or detailed enough compared to some of the macro photos we have promoted recently. I think it's a great picture and a great contribution to Commons but personally I don't think it has a strong chance at FPC. I am so grateful that you took the time to give me your feedback - and I am proud that you find the composition great, that comment really encourages me - not to speak about your opinion that you think it's a great pictureǃ Personally, I of course know it's great ː) - but it does not take me anywhere, if nobody shares my personal, ever so objective ː) judgement. An efficient way to learn about what is required for a FP is to submit a picture for a judgement of others and during the last days I have learnt a lot, by studying which pic's are promoted and which not. There are of course also judgements I do not share at allǃ
