Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 12:39, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Varney at Big Hollow
[edit]Hi! I noticed that you updated File:Varney at Big Hollow (Map).jpg. I think the building should be labeled "hangar" instead of "hanger". I would try to fix it, but it's a JPEG instead of an SVG, so I'd end up degrading it. (Wikimedia sites do accept SVG, though, and will automatically thumbnail them as PNG.) Also: Did airports usually have some form of runway back then, or was the whole field fair game for landing? --Closeapple (talk) 00:13, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
You might also be interested in this recent related news article about the two Varney airfields, though you may already know the information: "101 Things that Play in Peoria: Charles Lindbergh's turf", which also appeared in print as (Wednesday, April 23, 2015). "Charles Lindbergh got Lucky after leaving Peoria". Peoria Journal Star: B1, B7. Peoria, Illinois: GateHouse Media.
Thanks Closeapple. I will correct the spelling. I had not seen that exact article in pjstar, but it does appear to reference my blog post at pjstar.com debunking the "Spirit of Peoria" wives tale -- so it's glad to know that someone is reading my stuff. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cglenn3932 (talk • contribs) 10:59, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
