Digitalis
[edit]Hi, your photos File:IMG 9992 Digitalis laevigata.jpg and File:IMG 9992-Digitalis laevigata2.jpg actually show Digitalis ferruginea. Concerning the differences Flora Europaea writes: Calyx-lobes obtuse, with a wide scarious margin → D. ferruginea – Calyx-lobes acute or acuminate, with scarious margin very narrow or absent → D. laevigata. Regards --Franz Xaver (talk) 14:30, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hi. I am no expert on this kind of plants. I just read on the labels in the botanical garden, so you may be right. I will order a name-change, or? C T Johansson (talk) 17:31, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
The mysterious black rectangle is almost certainly due to Inskcape's "flowtext" nonsense, as can be diagnosed at Commons:SVG Check. The file is too large for me to conveniently download right at the moment, but give me a few days and I can fix it for you... AnonMoos (talk) 20:57, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
- Oops. Sorry AnonMoos. I didn't know you're on it as well. I removed the deletion template and asked the graphic lab to take a look. If you want to add someting or take on the request: Commons:Graphic_Lab/Illustration_workshop#Black_artifact_on_map. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 02:50, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Tank you for fixing it instead of deleting it! C T Johansson (talk) 13:37, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi C T Johansson, there is no Silema in Malta. Obviously you took the images at Triq it-Torri in Sliema from about 35°54′56.59″N 14°30′13.55″E / 35.9157194°N 14.5037639°E. -- Ies (talk) 07:18, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- The pictures was taken from and around a hotel that was in an area called Sliema. Ah, I have misspelled! My mistake! Change the name or move them if you can/like/want. C T Johansson (talk) 07:31, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
File:Valletta-IMG 1282.jpg and other images from Valletta
[edit]Kindly note the many subcategories of Category:Valletta made to be used. Please don't make a mess in the main category! -- Ies (talk) 07:24, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, I can stop uploading pictures if you like? C T Johansson (talk) 07:30, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- Don't stop uploading, just use better categories. -- Ies (talk) 07:36, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- I am not that good in the English language that I know to precise the categories, I just want to give away my pictures. I use a rough category so someone can place it better later, is that so wrong? C T Johansson (talk) 07:44, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- No it is not wrong to place in an upper category and hope someone else can categorize for you. But with that said, it would be very helpful if you could cruise around the subcategories and see where your images would fit. I've done the same thing of put in a large category and someone with much more knowledge comes along and recategorizes it for me. The most memorable was when I uploaded an image of plant from formal labeled garden only to be told by editor "that's not a passion flower, that's a clematis!" He renamed the image, called me stupid on my talk page, etc. Well... guess what... the plant really is a passion flower according to the PhD in charge of the garden. So sometimes even the crankiest of people have their hearts in right place but can be utterly wrong on the details. That's why it's best if you put your images into the smallest category - so people like that don't have anything about which to complain! Please let me know if I can be of help to you in future, you take lovely pictures - please don't stop uploading over a disagreeable experience with another user, ok?? It would be nice to know what celebration you took this and other images of. Unfortunately the description only says "Valletta". -- Ies (talk) 07:36, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- I don't know what is was, I was just walking by :) The aim for the tour was a stroll around Valletta, the UNESCO part. I know that a president was present... C T Johansson (talk) 07:41, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- As it seems that you know so much about Malta, you are free to fill in the missing information. This is a community and we suppose to help each other to make this place informative, or am I wrong? C T Johansson (talk) 08:13, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
The category for Hotel Phoenicia in Floriana is Category:Hotel Phoenicia (Floriana), not Category:Floriana.
- Thank you C T Johansson (talk) 10:40, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- It is correct now, no thanks to you! C T Johansson (talk) 10:43, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- Bugging a user to put image into hotel(xtown) subcategory when it was originally in the town category seems a big buggy to me. We have a lot of users who only get their stuff to town name and don't get unsigned notes on their talk pages. I see the point of showing this user how to categorize, my problem is with the method. I'm not seeing that the owner of this user page has caused any trouble by his lovely image uploads; if another admin has a problem with it in the future, please contact me. Don't forget to sign four tildes after your name in future, so the user can contact you without having to search history. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:13, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi C T Johansson, thanks for the barnstar. :) Do you know in which church were these three photos taken?

I think they might be the Basilica of St Dominic (you also had photos of the church from outside), but can you confirm this please? Best regards--Xwejnusgozo (talk) 11:41, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, that's inside the Basilica of St Dominic. C T Johansson (talk) 12:44, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll add the categories accordingly. --Xwejnusgozo (talk) 13:25, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
Hiya!
[edit]Hi CT ! If you need/want help with categories, there's editors who do a LOT of categorizing and can perhaps help you. The whole point though is to avoid uploading a photo without putting it in SOME kind of category at all... then it ends up in "Category:Images without Categories" and causes trouble for some admins. So please let me know if you're having trouble with categorizing uploads? At a minimum, please put the image into the town, village, or state of location. When uploading in the "categories" type box, you can type the beginning of a word and it will try to fill out the rest of it for you... sometimes looking at the suggested categories will help. To find categories (for example prior to upload), just use the search box, but type
Category:____(TOPIC YOU SEEK)_____
so it would look like
Category:Red Houses
It's really not terribly hard once you get the hang of it. I think you may also find that your work fits certain categories over and over which makes it a lot easier. In my own uploads, I seem to have a large number of electrical covers and telephone poles and infrastructure. I learned a lot about worldwide electrical cover, car charging station, utility poles and other stuff while seeking proper categories for my images. Usually when I am getting ready to upload images, I make a little text edit file on my desk top, and I copy into there all the code I might need for the images. Then on uploading I'm just cut/copy/pasting from that little file to Commons. Most of the time, since I took the images in physical locations, I can just put the town names as category if I can't think of anything else. I think it makes it easier that way - everyone has their own ways of working. But remember, there's three ways to find images on Commons:
- Search which searches description only... please make long descriptions!!
- Category
- Blind luck
Obviously the first two are more likely to get hits on your pictures! Please let me know if I can be of service to you at any time and I apologize if you felt at all harrassed as folks trying to help you become the SUPER Commons uploader (and who knows, maybe future admin) that we know you can be! Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:08, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
Prehistoric cart ruts
[edit]Congratulations! Here you took the first picture of a hidden site of prehistoric cart ruts in Malta. Most likely it's the so called "Malta Cart Ruts (4)" site acc. to [1]. Ies (talk) 08:02, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
- That was a lucky shot up on the Dingli Cliffs. I think it was on the south west side of the road. C T Johansson (talk) 08:07, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
Glowing in the dark
[edit]Did you ever come across with glowing in the dark succulents? Usually I hate "decorations" like glued hats, eyes, straw flowers etc. on cacti and other plants. In case of the (yes I know: suffering from that) glowing in the dark Echeveria agavoides however I couldn' resist. It was the challenge to take photographs under that unusual light that forced me to buy the poor plant. There was also an ugly glowing in the dark Echinocactus grusonii available that I left in the shop. -- Ies (talk) 17:48, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
- I haven't seen that kind of decorations on succulents in our shops. Interesting effect in the picture and a big challenge. But you got a good result. C T Johansson (talk) 20:03, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
