Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments UK 2019!

[edit]

Hi

Thank you so much for contributing to the UK section of this year's Wiki Loves Monuments contest, which finished yesterday. We really do appreciate the time and effort you've put in to record the UK's built cultural heritage for future generations.

Your contribution has been been added to our collections here on Wikimedia Commons, and is already available for editors to make use of on Wikipedia and elsewhere. It has also been entered into this year's contest. If you'd like to see your own images, just click on the uploads link at the top right of this page (if you don't see it, click on the Log in option first).

We've received over 10,000 UK entries this year, and it will take a few weeks for our volunteers and professional judges to decide on the final top 10. The winners will be announced by the end of this month, both here on Wikimedia Commons and also on the competition website.

The top 10 UK images will go forward to the international section where they will compete against winners from some 50 other countries. The international winners should be announced here in December.

Don't forget, by the way, that if you're hoping to win a prize in the contest it's essential that you have enabled email in your Wikimedia preferences. If you haven't, you're not eligible to win. If you're unsure, please check here.

Once again, many thanks for your help! MichaelMaggs (talk) 15:58, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Some minor chromatic aberrations near the right edge of the glass building, fixable. Otherwise nice and good quality --Jakubhal 22:23, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Difficult to fix this because a tilt+shift lens was used with a 12mm shift, so the aberrations are not symmetrical in the image. --Bobulous 17:25, 8 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

matching technical QI criteria, but Chessington house is pretty much blocked from view --Virtual-Pano 08:36, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The house isn't open to the public, and this view is the only one visible without permission to enter the gate. Plus, I liked the front garden and the way its trees frame the entryway. --Bobulous 16:40, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think too much on the left is out of focus, but that's my subjective opinion and I would neither support or decline. However the image should be categorized (you categorized the where but not the what), and if you have photographed the entrance to the house (all that's accessible) you should describe it as such. --Trougnouf 14:30, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"campaign203@ISA"

[edit]

What is the meaning of "campaign203@ISA" in several captions you have recently added? - Jmabel ! talk 00:34, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Jmabel.

I was participating recently in the "Tell Us About Her: Women in architecture" campaign (whose URL ends with the number 203) using the ISA Tool. Possibly the edits have been tagged with "campaign203@ISA" to aid the organisers in studying how effective this campaign has been at getting people to participate using the tool.

But I'm hoping that "campaign203@ISA" has not appeared inside any of the caption text itself. If you've seen this happening in any of my edits, can you point me to them so I can see what's happened?

Bobulous (talk) 16:39, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see, it's just in the comment. Normally the comment for adding a caption gives the caption verbatim; I didn't even look and see that in this case it didn't. - Jmabel ! talk 17:59, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It is only in the comment area and this happens for every edit you make using ISA (any campaign). Anthere (talk) 07:59, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I undid your edits on this image. You removed the correct painting and added the wrong one. Multichill (talk) 18:36, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, @Multichill.
I remember adjusting the "Depicts" items for that image, and I remember that it made sense at the time. But looking at the two images and the existing "Depicts" entries, I now can't work out what I saw that caused me to adjust them. (On this subject, should the holding museum be mentioned in the Wikidata "Description" to make it harder to confuse two so similar items?) Bobulous (talk) 21:03, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's quite common. I updated Danaë (Q22329907): painting by Orazio Gentileschi (J. Paul Getty Museum) & Danaë (Q29053312): painting by Orazio Gentileschi (Cleveland Museum of Art).
Good example of this is Bedroom in Arles (Q18543956): painting by Vincent van Gogh in the musée d'Orsay, Paris, Bedroom in Arles (Q18713070): painting by Vincent van Gogh located in the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam & Bedroom in Arles (Q18713076): painting by Vincent van Gogh in the Art Institute of Chicago. Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
