Pay attention to licensing
|
Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content: images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.
File:St Brigid's Anemone.jpg seems to be free (or it would be proposed for deletion), but it was identified as having a wrong license. Usually, it is because a public domain image is tagged with a free license, or because the stated source or other information is not sufficient to prove the selected tag is correct. Please verify that you applied the correct license tag for this file. If you believe this file has the correct license, please explain why on the file discussion page.

In this case, a more appropriate template would be {{Flickr-no known copyright restrictions}}, since the work was not created by U.S. Department of Agriculture or any federal employee in the course of their official duties, but rather merely scanned and provided by the the USDA. For Internet Archive scans on Flickr, it's always a good idea to consult the original source, and verify why a publication may credibly claimed to be public domain (sometimes the Internet Archive Book Image Flickr stream makes mistakes!). In this case, since there is a copyright notice of 1943 on the first page, a plausible additional template might be {{PD-US not renewed}}. Cheers, ----Animalparty (talk) 00:10, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Animalparty - I may (or may not) have now correctly tagged this - I am not good with these and tend towards the conservative and not uploading things to commons so, thank you for the help. Let me know if I have not correctly done this and otherwise THANK YOU.Antiqueight (talk) 00:54, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Looks good to me! For the most part The Internet Archive Book Images Flickr stream is credible, even if the underlying rationale is unclear. Occasional mistakes or snags I've seen involve foreign books that may be PD in the U.S. (where the Internet Archive is based) but not the country of origin, or cases where the scanned journal has an incorrect date (e.g. a magazine series that began in the 1890s may have all issues dated "1890", even up to the 1990s). Cheers, --Animalparty (talk) 00:59, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

File:Banner on Liberty Hall 12 May 1917.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |
