Amir Bayat(Persian: امیر بیات) Amir Bayat is an Iranian-American composer and concert pianist. Born in 1997 in Zanjan, Iran and raised in a musical family, he received a classical training at Mstislav Rostropovich Music School in Baku where he had his debut performance with the Azerbaijan Symphonic Orchestra in 2004 at the age of 7. Active in both the classical Persian and western music scenes Amir has performed throughout the United States as a composer, pianist, and tār player in collaboration with such renowned musicians as Imamyar Hasanov, Sara Naeini, the Echomerz Ensemble, and numerous others. He has also scored several acclaimed films, including Sohrab, a Journey (2017) and Nightly Whispers (2021).

Early life and education

Bayat was born in Zanjan, Iran and raised in a musical family. He first began studying music with his father Vahid Bayat, an opera singer, and received a classical training in piano at Rostrapovich Music School in Baku, where he had his debut performance with the Azerbaijan Symphonic Orchestra in 2004 at the age of 7.

At the age of 13, Bayat immigrated to the United States where he continued his musical activities throughout his high school years. Aside from participating in the school orchestra, he performed in a Yamaha sponsored concert at USC at the age of 15.

After emigrating from Iran, homesickness and the difficulties of living abroad led Amir to take-up the Persian tar as his second instrument, studying first with his father and later with Fariborz Azizi and Hossein Alizadeh.

Career

Active in both the traditional Persian and classical western music scenes, Amir has performed throughout the United States as a composer, pianist, and tar player in collaboration with such musicians as Imamyar Hasanov, Sara Naeini, the Echomerz Ensemble, and numerous others. He has also scored several films, including Sohrab, a Journey (2017) and Nightly Whispers (2021).
