There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:42, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

SVG correction
Hello,
You've recently corrected a SVG file, Flag of Chile.svg, the 21th august. Since then, it appears that the white rectangle is rendered black instead of white. Kyro suspected that it could be due to a bug from libsvg when rendering the SVG as a PNG thumbnail. I thought it was important to let you know about the motives for Kro's revert. Best regards, Tachymètre (talk) 18:18, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
- My apologies for the problem. I had a similar issue with File:Flag of Samoa.svg; I think this may be caused by using presentation attributes on the root element, so I'll avoid that in the future. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! Alkari (talk) 20:53, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
Is the flag really just a white rectangle? →AzaToth 22:55, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- I think so – that's all that was in the file, apart from 30 kB of Adobe Illustrator junk which I removed. I know plain white flags were sometimes used in pre-Revolutionary France, but if you have a source that says it should be otherwise, I'll happily change it. Alkari (talk)

SVG disgarbaging
Hi Alkari, you do a lot of fine overworking old editor-generated graphics. It is IMHO not necessary to tag that in the file description; but when you have to correct something there, e.g. removing or changing a tag like Inkscape to Inkscape-hand, you may also insert the HandSVG, or better SimplSVG (nor params needed) which tags the file as manually reduced and categorize appropriately. -- sarang사랑 17:39, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for your kind words – I'm glad to know my work has been of some help. I must admit I haven't been too careful about removing Inkscape tags, amending author information etc. when editing SVGs, but I appreciate your pointing it out; I'll try to pay more attention to that in the future. Alkari (?), 16 February 2012, 22:52 UTC
As a matter of fact, each reduction increases the Wikimedia databases because everything and every version is kept, forever. It may just reduce a little bit the server load when the graphic is rendered. The advantage of using sense when reducing old SVG and drawing new SVG is to show others that it will be possible to avoid editors like Inkscape &Co for the really simple graphics. This educational task to spread knowledge is supported by offering many examples, as e.g. in SVG simplified flags.
It is not at all bad if you don't tag your work; but when you do please care for the correct sorting order there, never categorize manually but always by using SimplSVG with parameters
- 1=previous editor (or empty)
- 2=previous size
- 3=current size
- 4=subcategory: "f" for flags
From the two size values the reduction value is calculated for sorting the file into the category. For your file 1931 Flag of India.svg this would be , with a reduction of 33.21%.
There are other subcategories for other graphics, you may find the corresponding letters in HandSVG (where it is parameter 2). You may ask me for any further question about this topic. -- sarang사랑 07:55, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Just removing the image metadata is really not much of a "cleanup"[sic], and it's dubious whether it's worthwhile to upload a new image version just to do that alone... I've encountered semi-pointless "cleanup" behavior from you before at File:Fine Gael historical flag.svg. -- AnonMoos (talk) 06:10, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
- You make a fair point; I'll try to refrain from that sort of minor edit in the future. (Am I correct that you don't object to the removal of redundant metadata when other changes are being made simultaneously?) Alkari (?), 11 August 2012, 05:38 UTC

Frage
- Here you uploaded a version after a "code cleanup". I tried to reuse the file in an other wiki projekt (MW-version: 1.18.5) and experienced, that the file was not displayed. My experience level in vector graphics (especially in code-things) is only small. I usually use Inkscape, seldom AI. (learning by try & error). If you don´t mind I´d like you to explain to me shortly why that happens and how to avoid (whith the smallest possible filesize). Thanks in advance for your effort --HarryCane (talk) 21:43, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
- I've looked at this and am not really sure what might be wrong. The actual SVG file at your wiki seems fine (in Firefox, at any rate); what's not appearing is the MediaWiki-generated thumbnail, which makes me suspect a problem with the MediaWiki configuration rather than the particular file. (Thumbnails for other SVG files appear properly, though, so I may be wrong here.) My "code cleanup" consisted of deleting about 2 kB of unnecessary SVG code inserted by Inkscape; I can't imagine why that should have caused problems, but you might try uploading the pre-cleanup version of the file and see what happens. Sorry I haven't been able to be more helpful – let me know if there's anything further I can do. Alkari (?), 26 November 2012, 01:07 UTC
- Ok, I guess, I found out where the problem is. The filename contains "Umlaute" (german), what means letters like ä, ö, ü. Here a renaming did solve it. It seems, that the used MW-version can't handle these things while the actual MW-Version at Wikimedia Commons do. I just wanted to let you know. Thank you for you effort. --HarryCane (talk) 19:15, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
- How do you get these SVGs so small, if I may ask. Do you use any software, and if yes: witch one? Happy New Year to you! --HarryCane (talk) 01:34, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
- The same to you (somewhat belatedly, I fear); my apologies for the delay in responding. The savings in file size mostly come from manually removing superfluous code such as Inkscape and other programs tend to add to SVGs. I'm using Notepad++, but any plain text editor will do. File:Flagge Königreich Württemberg.svg is not a bad example; you can view the source code of the pre- and post-cleanup versions for an illustration of this sort of thing. (If you like, I can certainly go into more detail on the cleanup process and the specific code that's safe to remove; let me know if you'd find it useful.) Alkari (?), 7 January 2013, 23:38 UTC
- Oh it seems, I wasn't here for a while. But I'm not in a hurry. Indeed, I'd like to learn more about the code-things. I often think, that there is much uninteresting bullshit written in the files that blows up the filesize unnecessary. But if I erase some lines of code, it mostly causes the destruction of the picture. What would you for instance change on this file? I can remove (') and (sodipodi:docname="Lerchenberg.svg") but what else is "safe to remove" as you say? And what is absoloutely needed?--HarryCane (talk) 09:31, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
