I am now proud owner of a TUSC account!

thanks for the heraldry

[edit]

I noticed with pleasure that you had made far better renditions of the arms and banners of the various welsh princes and principalities than I managed! They look superb. I had been trying to recolour Llywelyn's arms to make them into Dafydd's but it was slow going and I gave up! One thing I have noticed; the arms you have for Deheubarth are incorrect; they should be Gules a Lion rampant Or, a border engrailed of the last meaning the background is red (gules) rather than black (sable) as you have rendered them. Also, on the map of Wales during the reign of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd you have labelled the southern kingdom as "Debeubarth" when it should be "Deheubarth".

I have the heraldic description of the last known surviving Welsh royal line (unbroken patrilineal descent until at least 1901) which was published in a victorian book by John Burke (creater of Burke's Peerage)... would you be interested in seeing if you can re-work these arms to put them in colour?

Let me know

Hello AlexD~commonswiki!

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.

To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.

You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Thank you. BotMultichillT (talk) 05:37, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! An user left a note at German Map Lab that it has to be “Deheubarth“ instead of “Deheubath“. Could you please correct it? Thanks, --NNW (talk) 17:28, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another user has corrected it. --NNW (talk) 21:24, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think the snakes are actually supposed to be interlaced, as seen in http://www.liv.ac.uk/~spmr02/rings/snakes.jpg (see also File:Three-Crescents-Diane-Poitiers.png), while the current image shows them non-interlaced (i.e. one clearly on bottom, one in the middle, one on top). AnonMoos (talk) 00:36, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AnonMoos, well spotted. The snakes are suppose to be interlaced but I had a bit of a problem getting them to look tied so did a rough version instead. At the moment I'm taking a bit of a break from wiki so if you want to please feel free to alter it. 81.102.94.23 00:47, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for uploading the revised version; I looked over the SVG file, but felt like I would have to edit the snakes' bodies before even being able to start on the interlacing... AnonMoos (talk) 14:12, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wales - England border

[edit]

As you created [[File:Map of Wales.svg]], you may be interested in the discussion taking place here, regarding whether we need a new map to show the Wales-England border in some more detail. Regards, Ghmyrtle (talk) 18:12, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Custom coat of arms

[edit]

Alex, Do you do custom coat of arms? I love your work and need one very similar to what you have posted. rea@drwilliams.org

Durham Colleges in Newcastle

[edit]

Alex, following research into the various Durham College shields, I have found that there are errors on the coats on the union building in Newcastle: the towers should be Argent, not Or, as are the three towers of Newcastle city itself.

See the following for Armstrong College: http://www.archive.org/stream/bookofpublicarms00foxd/bookofpublicarms00foxd_djvu.txt

And you may want to take my word for the college of medicine, as it is in an old article in the Durham University Journal (C. H. Hunter Blair, DUJ Vol. XLVI, No. 2, Pg. 45, March 1954).

I can also provide details of Bede, Hild, King's, Neville's Cross, Codrington, and Fourah Bay Colleges, if you are interested.

Someone tried to upload an improved version probably because in your version the central emblem is squished, and there is a stupid pseudo-reflective gradient of the kind required for heraldic images on French Wikipedia, but which is not needed or wanted in most other contexts... AnonMoos (talk) 12:41, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You may not like it or think it is need but that is called subjectivity... as i said feel free to upload as a separate file rather than saving over other's work... not everyone shares your aesthetic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AlexD~commonswiki (talk • contribs) 00:06, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
