Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). Scotese Deep Time Maps
[edit]Before you uploaded all these maps and replaced them across the entirety of Wikipedia, it's clear that you didn't even bother to read the license on Scotese's website [1] These maps may not be copied, resold, used or modified in any manner for commercial purposes, such as consulting reports, trade journals or the popular press, textbooks, videos, educational CD-ROMS, computer animations, museum exhibits, web sites on the Internet or for any other commercial use, without the express written consent of the author. The lack of commercial use clearly means that the images cannot be uploaded to Commons, as stated at Commons:Licensing. There's no reason to believe the license on Zenodo (which have been repeatedly questioned before on other publications) overwrites those of the actual license on Scotese's website. I am politely asking you either email Scotese to confirm his maps are actually under a CC-BY license, or to revert all of your changes on Wikipedia as well as to delete these images. If you do not do either of these, I will be forced to nominate them for deletion. Thanks. Hemiauchenia (talk) 18:10, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- OOPS! I'm so sorry! I was sure to check the licenses of the images before uploading, but it seems I overlooked Scotese's personal license! As of the time of this message, I've sent him an email regarding this issue I've created. Thanks for letting me know. (I also asked him to see if the CC BY 4.0 license found on the site (https://zenodo.org/records/10659112) actually stands)
- By the way, if he says yes, would you like to see the response he gave me word-by-word from his email message, and would you like me to add a license on the pictures expressing that I got permission from him? — Alex26337 (talk) 03:25, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
