Image Tagging Image:Bassai Temple Of Apollo Protection.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Bassai Temple Of Apollo Protection.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. skINMATE 14:17, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Via Appia map.jpg
Hi, did you actually draw Image:Via Appia map.jpg yourself or did you scan it from a book? I notice the blue is off-register, which is a hallmark of physical printing, not of a computer-generated diagram. Stan Shebs 12:07, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
- I photographed it off a poster at the archeological site of Minturno in Italy. Afterwards it was retouched. -- AM 12:40, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
- OK then, you're not the copyright owner and don't have the right to put it in the public domain. (Otherwise I could take photographs of every page in a book and claim I own copyright on the book.) Who made the poster at the site? Private organization? Government? Stan Shebs 18:14, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- This was an exhibition of the local findings at this archeological site. I presume it was state-run. They had pictures and explaining articles on the walls with open access for anybody. Photos were NOT prohibited. -- AM 20:30, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, if you had a picture of the whole exhibition and you could see the map somewhere in it if you looked closely, that would be fine. But that's not what you did, you positioned and focussed to make sure that you made an exact a copy as possible. To make a comparison, many museums of modern art allow photography, but if you stood in front of a painting and got an exact representation, no frame, no room, then that photo is copyrighted by the painter. In any case, it would take a half-hour with a computer drawing program to create a better-quality version of this map, so we should do that instead. Stan Shebs 13:18, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'll do that when I have the time. -- AM 14:20, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
If you're ready to upload now, I'll just delete the existing image, and you can upload under the same name, then no need to edit usages. Thanks for working on a replacement! Stan Shebs 00:35, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- OK done. Stan Shebs 17:06, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

- Hello,
- Sadly, these scans can be considered as copyvios because of the photographer's rights: PD-old can't apply because photographies are recent, neither PD-art because these are reproductions of 3D objects (statues). So if you don't bring more safe informations about the copyright status, we should make a deletion request (adieu bronzes de Riace !). Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 20:27, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
Adieu! In the future I will upload my scans to german wiki. Copyright problems with statues 2500 years old! I can't believe it! Ciao, AM 20:34, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- If you took the photo yourself, there would not be any problem; but what about the photographer's rights? His work (high-resolution photography without reflect nor background) need to be protected. Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 12:54, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Image deletion warning | Image:Bronzi Di Riace Statua A+B.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

- WARNING: If these scans are deleted I will upload the photos of the statues I took myself at the Museo Nazionale in Reggio C.. They are very bad. -- AM 11:52, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well, a free image is always better than a copyrighted one, no matter of the quality. You can upload them now. Better quality versions will be uploaded in the future, so goes the wiki. Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 13:27, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- NEVER will there be any better photos! When I have been at the location I could take photos, but no flash and no tripods were allowed. The second time I have been there NO photos were allowed. So, how do you expect getting better photos? The only way is scanning. There should not be any copyright for such archeological things because they belong to the heritage of mankind. By the way, if you want to be consequent in this field you would have to delete a lot, if not the most, of the pictures of ancient drawings here on commons. -- AM 14:30, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- The point you don't understand—or admit—is that you didn't scan a drawing; but a photography of a 3D object. There is absolutly no country in which this is legal, because every country protects the photographer's right in that particular case (3D object). And if you know other images concerned (scans of photos of 3D objects, or simply photos of 3D object non "user-made"), please consider make a deletion request or just notifying them to me. They will be deleted soon or later.
- Now the B warrior is not so bad. And if we can't obtain better images because photos were forbidden, tant pis. It seems like museums in Italy become very silly. Ciao. Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 21:49, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe my understanding of copyright is a little bit more ähhh.. open, than yours. What I think is: There is a grey area concerning copyright. We should not give away this advantage concernig important items. If the affected don't complain... and how could Museums do that? With which justification? Anyway, bon nuit.

Image Tagging Image:Bigcancoat.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Bigcancoat.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. Image deletion warning | Image:Ostia Antica Rete Viaria.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. |

Image Tagging Image:Fausto Bertinotti 2006.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Fausto Bertinotti 2006.jpg.
If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thanks for the retouch job. Now that I took a closer look, I can see you did a very good job. If you should need to retouch any other of my pictures, you may ask me for a version - fresh from the camera with perhaps just a comment in the exif added, and without the extra compression I usually saves them with to reduce the filesize for upload here. Hi Haros, this edit I've made a long time ago. I have been there too, but I have no good photos of the location. Next time I'll contact you before editing, greetings, --AM 14:07, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
