Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:37, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Logo del Bicentenario de la Independencia de Colombia.svg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Logo del Bicentenario de la Independencia de Colombia.svg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Hi! Above montage, created by you, suffered a copyright violation of part File:Lagos del Cacique - Bucaramanga.jpg (taken from http://www.panoramio.com/photo/8253023, 03.2008, © All rights reserved by Kmilitus) compromising the whole montage (see also COM:Collages). It needs a new version, substituting the critical photo by another one. Can you please fix it? Thx. Gunnex (talk) 07:31, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.
Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Copyright status: File:General Fac.gif
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:General Fac.gif. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Mayor Fac.gif ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

File:Presidential Seal of Colombia.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

A barnstar for you!
[edit]The Original Barnstar | |
Hello, Angel Paez, I hope you are very well, I am sending you this message in order to receive your help, as you know the "Presidential Seal of Colombia" for several years has been on a white background with a blue border and white letters, while I was making arrangements on the page of "Presidencies of Alfonso López Pumarejo" I accidentally made a change in wikimediacommons with respect to the current shield, since the page prevented me from using the shield with red borders that it was using during 1940 and 1965, I was preparing to use it from this to this page, and today that I enter I find that all the pages of presidents and the versions of the article "president of Colombia" have the already incorrect "Presidential seal with red border" I have tried to make the change but wikipedia does not would you let me.
I wait your answer. AlexExpensive (talk) 02:52, 6 August 2023 (UTC) |
License of SVG Cycling Jerseys
[edit]Dear Ángel Páez/Archivo,
You uploaded a cycling jersey SVG icon to Wikimedia Commons. Great work, thanks for that! It is the file:MaillotSlovakia.svg .
However, the shape is exactly the same as the file:Jersey yellow.svg that I created, and uploaded under CC-BY-SA. This means that if you create derivative works, you must
- credit the original creator(s), and
- share it under the same license
You did not credit me as the original author of the work you made a derivative of, ánd you did not use the CC-BY-SA license.
Could you make changes to the images you uploaded? You can do this very simply by adding the following lines to the icons you originally created (and removing the current license template line)

and if there is a summary table, change the line that reads |source=own
with a line that reads something like
|source=own Shape based upon :file:Jersey yellow.svg by User:IIVQ
If you based this icon on another icon than File:Jersey yellow.svg, you can substitute that and credit the creator thereof as well as the authors of the work they based their work on.
