User:Sapfan/PTG Rail Wonders of Southern Sweden 2013
By Jan Pešula from Aarhus, Denmark. Written on 5 October 2013.
British tour operator PTG organized a week-long vintage train tour, Rail Wonders of Southern Sweden. It started in Malmö, Sweden on Sunday 22 September and ended in the same city on Friday 27 September 2013. Like other events targeted at railfans (train enthusiasts), the purpose of this trip was to to give participants an opportunity to travel along routes without regular passenger traffic, to take pictures of both vintage and state-of-art rail equipment (trains, locomotives, railcars, stations, port facilities, etc.) and to share their travel experiences. Overall, about 60 people joined, most of them from the UK and Germany. I was one of two Czech railfans on board.
The following sections describe the route we took and illustrate it with my pictures. All photographs hosted on this server (commons.wikimedia.com - Wikimedia Commons, a sister project of Wikipedia) are available under a free license, meaning that you are invited to copy and reuse them for free and without asking. My own photos here are usually released to public domain, therefore all you need to do is to mention my name as author whenever you use my work. Other authors/uploaders may have additional requirements, so to avoid trouble, check a guideline and always refer to the licence of each work. Links to other websites are here only for convenience and their contents is obviously fully copyrighted.
Tour itinerary
[edit]To follow this tour more easily, you may refer to:
- Official Swedish rail maps, available from Trafikverket (pdf files at the right of the linked page; out of these, the most relevant is Trafikledningsområde Syd). They show the detail of currently existing routes.
- Historical Swedish maps on historiskt.nu. By clicking on the image (and later single routes on each partial map), you can get increasingly detailed information, as well as links to old timetibles etc.
- Regional rail maps also from historiskt.nu. By clicking on the general map, a printable map of a large region will open. You can click further on numbers next to rail routes to get a list of stations of each.
