I'm also a physics' teacher. This file (in animated gif format) shows an experiment about Surface Tension. It has been included on the french wikipedia page

• A small piece of plastic floats on water.
• When a drop of washing liquid is put at an end of it, the piece is moved by the surface tension force.

As one can see the drop is driven toward one particular end of the piece of plastic by a slit.
