To convert from the MOV of the camera to the OGG of Commons, one needs

• mplayer/mencoder
• ffmpeg2theora

Mencoder

Mencoder is used to convert the file to AVI and apply transformations

• Convert from MOV to AVI

mencoder film.mov -o film.avi -ovc lavc -oac pcm

• Convert from MOV to AVI without sound

mencoder film.mov -o film.avi -ovc lavc -nosound

• Rotating the thing by 90°

mencoder film.mov -o film.avi -vf rotate=2 -ovc lavc -nosound

• Rotating the thing by 90° where intial file is avi

mencoder film1.avi -o film2.avi -vf rotate=2 -ovc lavc -nosound

(note names must differ)

ffmpeg2theora

Converts from avi to ogg.

ffmpeg2theora film.avi

outputs film.avi.ogg

Possible problems:
