spider pics
[edit]hi,
i just found your very nice pictures in the Category:Spiders. Thanks for tagging them at all, some people make good pictures, and then let them disappear in untagged Nirvana. But the best practice, if you have the name of the spider, is to add them to the fitting gallery page (in this case, Misumena vatia), and not tag them at all. Or, if there is a reason to tag it, only one category is better than several layers (in your case, Thomisidae, Spiders, Misumena vatia), because this creates redundancy and clutters up category pages.
Btw, one of the pictures wasn't a M. vatia, but a completely different species, probably Araniella cucurbitina. Yes, the abdomen looks similar, but check out the eyes, they are completely different.
If you have any questions about categorizing etc., just leave me a note.
cheers :) --Sarefo 01:06, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, it is not possible to edit a filename. There is a workaround however. Reupload your file with a different name and then apply the template {{badname|new filename}} on the old picture's page. Cheers. -- Lycaon 07:05, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Question: you recently changed description page I changed myself yesterday: Featured picture up front, location separated from summary, etc. I feel it is more important for users to have the image description as close as possible to the image itself... as it was done in images I did not change (see all 2006 featured images, for examples), and all the ones I did change (featured pictures from mars 2007 to present, roughtly). Do you mind if I come back to a more classical format? Berrucomons 14:17, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

- Thank you, Richard. I have no new camera. I just took a picture not of my usual subject and not in my usual conditions. Most of the time I take pictures of atmospheric optic phenomenas and they are hard to find and even harder to photograph. When I take such pictures, I do try to do my best with the quality and composition, but I'm much more interested how to introduce the subject better. I've dropped my weapons already. I'm just got tiered of fighting for nothing. I really like your macros.--Mbz1 19:58, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Mbz1

Thanks for the macro tips
[edit]Hey I have never used a macro rail nor a tripod. When I had taken the pictures of the aphids, I was just a beginner in photography and was unaware of all these equipment. I now have a tripod. But not a macro rail. Will get the rail. Thanks for the tip on mirror ore-release. Will use that in future. I saw the photos posted here and they are just awesome. By the way, I have deleted the tips :-). Will be on watch-out for your photos. Take care

- :-)
- There is a perfectly adequate template to use : {{RetouchedPicture|CHANGES|editor=MODIFIER|orig=LOCATIONOFORIGINALIMAGE|origoff=LOCATIONOFORIGINALIMAGEIFOFFWIKI}} (see talk) and it would probably best to use that rather than reinventing the wheel, otherwise people will probably just tag the image with that template anyway :-). Personally I don't have a problem with people improving their images to overcome technical deficiencies (including sharpness and removing distracting foreground or background elements) - but I am jealous of their editing abilities as some of my images could do with a bit (eg en:Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates/NZ_North_Island_Robin, Image:Hihi (unprocessed image).jpg :-).
- I do have a problem with images which are heavily modified in terms of the main subject of the photo, eg distorting the subject or juxtaposing things to make them look as they were photographed together - these come into the realms of works of art rather than photographs and need to be described as such (and probably they are not much use to these wikis unless the author is an artist recognised by the wikis, where the image would be an example of their work). --Tony Wills 22:32, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Well the talk page for RetouchedPicture suggests that touch ups by the photographer which try to compensate for technical deficiencies of the camera (eg whitebalance, contrast, saturation, color curves (i.e. to lighten shadows), sharpening, lens distortion, leaning, perspective correction, cropping (as long as the main subject is not altered)) don't need the tag. So I think you might be feeling too guilty, and your modifications aren't beyond normal processing anyway. So you do not actually need to mention them at all. :-) --Tony Wills 23:34, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

("If you have objection, move the image to Consensual review state.")

FP nom
[edit]Hey, you once support my FP nom and then stopped supporting when another version was added. Then you opposed the new version. Do you still not support the original? Due to vote splitting caused the introduction of the second picture, neither are currently successful. I don't normally ask for vote clarifications because it seems like vote tampering, but this is a case where a vote was split for a picture that would have easily succeeded without the introduction of another version. If you don't want to do anything, fine, but I just thought I'd ask. -- Ram-Man 17:10, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

- Question: where did you find these wonderful insects? Euchroea auripimenta is from Madagascar, Oxysternon conspicillatum is from Andes montains and Cetoniidae Torynorrhina is from malaysia. Did you travel a lot recently? or do you breed these insects? or photographed them in a zoo? It would add a lot of value to your picture to have a more complete description... Re:Age
[edit]Thanks, Richard. On the other hand, if I did not know you were born in 1976, I would have believed that you are much, much older because you change your mind so very often and sometimes(not always) are getting really boring. Regards--Mbz1 20:17, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Mbz1
