User:Magnus sine Cognomen/Utkast dok medår
This is the documentation for medal icons with years. This is not the documentation specifically for User:Magnus sine Cognomen, however it also links here.
Scope
[edit]More specific, it is the documentation for the family of medal icons named as VALUEyear-YYYY.svg
, and their related icons named as VALUEyear-YYYY-noframe.svg
and VALUEyear-YYYY-shiny.svg
. For the year 2022, this include the following medals:
The names in this text will generally have a format with some variable parts in italic:
- VALUE
- The value of the medal; one of Gold, Silver and Bronze
- YYYY
- The four-digit year
- -TYPE
- The type; this is optionally one of -noframe or -shiny, but may be omitted
Available medals
[edit]Currently, all icons are available for the years 1850–2050.
Usage
[edit]Anyone may, of course, use the icons as they wish, including the common inclusion as
[[File:Bronzeyear-1903-shiny.svg]]
Skriv om detta:
The three different types are made so that the user can adapt readability and aesthetics at different icon sizes. A few simple tests have been made to see at what sizes the different types are more suitable. They suggest that
- Sizes smaller than 18px should be avoided if the year shold be reasonably readable
- 18px works well the standard Wikipedia font size, such as theese silver and gold images, but the year may still be hard to read.
- 26px gives a better readability .
- For all sizes smaller than 36px, the readability is better if the
-noframe
type is used. - The
-shiny
type actually does work with smaller sizes, but at aboout 50px the effect is more visible.
However, the files with the VALUEyear-YYYY-TYPE.svg
name format are made to be suitable for template inclusion. The idea is that you may list medals for a team or athlete, and the icon tells which year and value the medal had.
